Thing said:Jay if your feeling like that after a comp it's easy just to say I'll think about moving to powerlifting
IMO the strongman world would be loosing out.
But I really think more devotion on the events you find weak whilst maintaining you strengths
1) f**k brutally stron pressed world class IMO
2) very strong on the squats back and especially front.
3) strong grip
4) strong on yoke and farmers

So like me the medleys and running around stuff need work. And TBH more focus there would propell your strongman abilities.

Stick with it buddy

very true post ^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Jay, your pressing ability is amazing. You are unlike most strongmen who train as you already have the strength that people will train there whole life and not see those type of numbers... just smash the medleys fella.

definately understand how you feel mate. like others have said though, different comps suit different folks. I think you would probably find that youd do better in a higher level, heavier format comp like the uks/bob d's esm qualifiers. dont give up though mate, your pressing is far too good to waste on powerlifting, thats for sure!! unlucky mate but non of this quit talk, you can tell by your posts and your knowledge of strongman that you love the sport dont let one bad comp stop you competing in it.take some time off to rest then come back and hammer your weaknesses.

Just do what you enjoy mate....if thats not strongman, so be it

You are, and always will be I'd imagine, a very strong guy and exceptionally strong presser

Put it in the past big fella.

We've had done s**t once in comps (or in my case more than once) in our lives! Even Loz and Terry have had s**t comps!

Just as others have said, do what you enjoy

The "disagreements" Happy we have had about strongman have been based around the fact that you love static, heavy comps, and you are a static, monster presser, so you could happily just do comps that suit you, and have fun every comp

Or, you do seem like you really want to go to the natty worlds (can't say I blame you, going to prioritise the natty comp next year myself) in which case, you will have to adjust a wee bit. You will have to work mobility and events, and IMO you would need to drop some weight to significantly improve. You will always be the best presser at a natty comp, even if you are a bit lighter

But I also agree with Wilson, you would probably do better at a higher level comp, something like the Uks. I beat a guy called Powers at an inter level comp quite handily, then a few months later we did a heavy open and he smashed me, as the lighter weights, more running around events at an inter didn't suit him, and did suit me, but he was WAY stronger than me

Thanks boys , really appreciate the comments ....dissapointed with my performance but i believe i have concentrated too much on getting "strong in the gym" and not adjusting my training accordingly for events , i havent flipped a tyre or done conans since 2009 and it showed , loading events are ignored in favour of the static Arnold style events .
After feeling annoyed about missing out on the Worlds, i will use it as a positive to show up my flaws . I have had a moan and a sulk and i feel better and more focused , looking forward to getting in the gym and working hard again. Thanks for the advice lads it has all been registered .

Chin up mate.

I can only echo what the others said. I have had a situation where a comp was "light" and I got destroyed my quicker guys, whilst knowing that if everything had been 20kgs heavier I would have done a lot better.

I think you learn much more from a bad performance than an easy win. Take time, think about what you need to do to work on the weaknesses. You have the tools, you have a good grip and a great press, you are very strong, so everythign else can be worked on.

If you can use this as fuel for the future then do sdo, if not, take note of what you need to work on then let it go.

Glad to see you being a bit more positive Jay Happy

Your strong as f**k my friend and you only need to tweak your training a little to brush up on the more unfamiliar events. Once you've done this, you will be pretty much unstoppable!!!!!
