thanks lads. its not really the performance itself which im pissed off about, my attitude just stunk. didnt get fired up for anything until the last event when last place was staring me in the face. no reflection on the comp at all which was brilliantly run by jt, sam and crew as always but I just didnt enjoy competing.

Mate, I didnt see much of your performance, just DL, which was impressive

If competing isn't fun, dont compete. If training goes well, and you get the desire to compete again, then do give it a shot again

right, ive stopped sulking about it now so ill do a proper write up.

Inbetweeners

my minds not really been 'on it' leading up to this. been out on the lash a few times which is unusual for me and sorting stuff out for st.ives which has been pretty stressful this year. got there and didnt really have my comp head on at all. people kept telling me to wake up so I guess it showed lol.

Farmers/drag

tough event for me as endurance isnt a strength so finishing it was my focus. my turns are s**t and as I got to the cone I just kept thinking 'youre going to f**k this up' so I turned them and did a tactical drop. a more confident me wouldve just gone for it. drag was easy but hard lol. finished in a s**t time. felt like s**t afterwards.

Log press medley

if this had been the first event I wouldve tried the heavy log. felt s**t, dizzy and ill after the last event so I had a warm up on the 90kg log trainer and did a dodgy rep on it so scaled back my expectations. plan was to start on the 106kg log, miss out the 116 and get 4. wasnt confident walking up to the 106 log which is just ridiculous really considering 120 has been nailed regularly recently in training. f**ked the clean up first time but the did it without a problem. next 2 were ok and then came up to the sleeper which I hate. didnt feel heavt but I managed to throw it behind my head somehow and missed it. 4 wouldve got me a top 3 finish so a massive f**k up on my part. screwed up the press in competition AGAIN.

Van pull/arm over arm

knew this would be a s**t event for me as it was basically a speed thing and fast I am not. watched ben v put up a decent time by just using his arms instead of the conventional rower type technique so I thought id try it. bad move, last place lol.

Loading

again this was basically a foot race with the first 2 implements. again, just not fast enough with this type of s**t. also managed to crush my thumb under the sleeper. thought I might have to pull out of the last event but I got a pint glass of ice from the bar and stuck it in there until it went numb.

Frame deadlift

this is the only event I got fired up for all day. was in equal last place with danny so I had to beat him to stay out of the bottom spot. tried this timed at the container with 230 on and got 9 reps so was very surprised to be told id done 9 with the new comp weight of 250! good for f**k all points on the day but im pleased with it I guess.

overall, disappointed with it although not overly surprised at the end result. speed, endurance and tactics were key in this comp and im suspect in all those areas. more disappointed in my attitude. just didnt seem to have any fight or confidence in me until the last event when it was too late.

It was great to see you again yesterday Will and i can understand how it feels training for a comp with other things on your mind.

Dont think you should be at all disapointed with your performance - you said yourself that your head wasnt in it and if it was then you would have placed higher.

cheers mate.

Training today:

Deadlift (straps):

100kg x 5
140kg x 5
160kg 5 x 5

30cm/12" Box squat:

100kg x 5
120kg x 5
140kg x 5
160kg x 4

strange how squatting and deadlifting can feel ok but doing up your shoes can hurt like hell. deadlifts were comfortable which im pleased with as that same workout damn near killed me a few weeks ago. used straps because of my busted thumb.

pleased with the squats. took my grip in slightly which seemed to help stop my arse coming up first. wouldve loved a 5th on the 160 but it was a 50/50 so I left it. whole body is aching like f**k now.

cheers lads. I am aching pretty bad. mainly from the farmers/drag and frame deads I think. for some reason side handle pickups dont seem to affect my deadlifting much so I can do both with a days rest inbetween without to much difference in strength levels.

good to hear that your tech has improved with the change of hand placement.

I'm sure the fire will return soon, Will. My enthusiasm is a bit low at the moment too, but only because I've had loads of other stuff on my mind.

I know your gutted about the comp Will, but it's great to see you straight back in the gym getting some graft in.

I can only reiterate what the others have said. Take some time enjoying your training, get all your core lifts back up to pb territory and I'm sure the desire to compete will return.
