that sounds like fun. probably good news as far as my shoulder injury goes aswell as I wont have to worry about my shoulders caving in like I do on farmers.

Timber ccarry looks like a great addition to the comp - can't wait for that!

Bring your scales by all means Joni, we'll just have to dismantle the yoke (which is fairly easy to do). If it's right (that it weighs 75kg as opposed to 50) I would like to attempt 350kg before the comp.

YESSSSSSS!!! Are you saying that my yoke PB is 325kg???? Lets not get all Unit 20 about this now and add some phantom weights to make a PB though Tongue Are you guys sure about this?

like I said it was bathroom scales but I weighed both feet and they came up the same. I checked with tom and, although he wasnt sure, he said it sounded right.

Hmm, I think our yoke is actually 200kg now, and we've been doing runs with around 450kg... Roll-Eyes Tongue

Millsy/Jonibol - best way to get accurate read without dismantling is to get someone to stand on scales with empty yoke on their back. Has to be a lighty tho, maybe MsMillsy would volunteer, or the cat?

Good idea in theory Brian, but it would definitely have to be the cat! Scales won't go heavy enough (plus I don't have any!).

Training today:

2" Axle clean and press:

60kg x 4
70kg x 3
80kg x 2
90kg 6 x 2

2" Axle push press (from the rack):

60kg x 4
70kg x 3
80kg x 2
90kg 5 x 5

Log rows:

90kg x 4
100kg 2 x 10


Im signed up for the Unit 20 Strength Challenge on Nov. 3rd. These are the events:

Axle press - 100kg for reps - 2min time limit. Floor to overhead
Silver dollar deadlift - rising bar, 10kg incriments. straps/suits allowed. Starting weight 200kg, and lifts can be attempted or passed at the athlete's discretion.
Yoke - 320kg for 10.8m - 30 second time limit
Frame walk - 280kg
Thick handled dumbell (circus dumbell) overhead press - 50kg - max reps - 90 secs time limit
Stone over yoke (50" bar) - choose between 115kg and 135kg stone, as many reps as possible in 90 secs. One rep with 135 beats any number of reps with the 115.
Last event - medley - be sick (3 reps), cry in toilet (90 sec time limit), call your Mum (maximum time)

The plan of attack is:

- try and recreate the events for the next few weeks.

- eat lots of ice cream.

- pretend stone lifting isnt one of the events.

It will be a great day out man! Heaviest comp we will nail till be enter some mutant open category "hand my arse over here please" comp.

15" Deadlift (belt):

140kg x 3
180kg x 2
200kg x 1
220kg x 1
240kg x 1
250kg x FAIL

28cm Box squat (belt):

100kg x 3
120kg x 3
140kg x 2
150kg x 2
160kg x 1
170kg x 3

43cm Box squat (belt):

140kg x 10


The deadlift for max at the comp is from 15" so I thought id better see what I could do from that height. The 240 was about what I expected. The 250 attempt I got to mid thigh before running out of gas so hopefully with a couple of weeks practice from this height Ill be able to nail it at the comp.

Pleased with my squatting today. I tried wearing my belt a little higher like I do for yoke with some good results. 170 for 3 would make 190 for 1 a possibility.

you know man, i think if we hammer this 15 inch for few weeks i would not be suprised if our deadlift would shoot up of the floor as well.

i think once you get used to the height you may nail more than 250, but the comp has 10kg increments so thats a tough call...

It will also boil down to strategy on the day i think!

no doubt. 15" is a real sticking point for me so itll be good to work it for awhile. Im going to work on multiple sets of heavy singles up until the comp.

Unless it feels light on the day I think 260 will be too much but you never know.....

Training today:

Yoke (belt):

240kg 10m
280kg 10m
300kg 10m x 6 (5 mins between runs)


Wanted to get some miles on the clock with some heavy weights to prepare for the 320kg yoke at the comp. Was only planning to do 4 runs at 300 but I felt good so I pushed for a couple more. The 5th run was hard but the 6th pushed me right to the limit. Was going to work back down to 240 but the only thing I was good for after that was rolling around on the floor for about 10 minutes feeling sick.

Learnt a fair bit today and I feel like im prepared for comp weight. I just need to work on my speed now. 300 yoke is my b**ch! 320 im coming for you!

Tidied up the yoke and plates from this mornings workout and had a bit of spare time so I did a few farmers pickups:

Farmers pickups:

70kg x 6
90kg x 5
100kg x 4
100kg x 1 + 49sec hold

owning 300 is a solid milestone man. It is now in the bag!

Yoke is clearly a strong event for you. What do you see as your weak events at the moment and whats the master plan on attacking them?
