Hey, I wouldn't mind trying to avenge my painful and ever scarring 'Severn Raping' as I affectionately refer to it as, but it won't happen at this comp, even though me and Jono designed it Happy f**k it though, still happy with the progress I've made since then, just you've made even more! I'll put it down to you having a 'stronger base' and more lifting time than me.... Happy

The progress ive made recently is just down to training events really. I got my yoke, farmers and log trainer from tom at severn valley. Before then the only events I had ever done where at the first timers in bexhill. So I think alot if it is improvements in technique rather than strength. My squat is a bit stronger than it was then but my deadlift is probably weaker so my gym lifts havent changed too much. However I have put in some distance with the yoke and alot of reps with the log trainer since june and I think its paying off now.

90kg x 1
100kg x 4 in 120secs
100kg 3 x 2 (double overhand)

2" Axle push press (from the rack):

80kg x 3
90kg x 3
100kg x 1
105kg x 1

One arm Dumbell press (right arm only):

40kg x 2
42.5kg x 2
45kg x 8 in 90secs

Log rows:

100kg x 4
110kg x 4
120kg 2 x 6

Cardio and grip is really letting me down on the axle. If my cardio was better and my grip was good enough to powerclean I think id be good for 6 reps. As it is the continentals just kill me. I know I can get four in 120secs, its just a question of whether I go for five and risk burning myself out. Ill have to see how I go next week and make a decision.

Thought id better try some one arm dumbell pressing as I havent trained for it yet. Found out I can only use my right arm as my left shoulder is still too delicate. Will just train the right for now and leave the left for comp day if I need the reps.

lol thanks joni. Pressing events and yoke are good for me so in theory things should go well in those but im not taking them for granted. anything can happen on comp day!

200 is mine at last! Debated whether it was a good idea to go for it so close to the comp but decided a 200kg squat would be a good confidence booster so I went for it.

Where is 28cm in terms of breaking parallel?

You are looking strong for the comp. Absolutely the right decision to nail it before the comp, its all about peaking and this and next week should be about HEAVY.

Good lifting homie. Nice squatting, and deads looking strong too. There will be a ton of folk around the 250/260 mark, so will be a good fight on the day.

thanks joni! 28cm is just below parallel for me. I have a 22cm box (rock bottom)aswell which will be my next target to squat 200 on.

Didnt feel great coming into this. I think the squat PB on friday took its toll. Thought I might move the 340 a bit but after an ok pickup it rooted me to the spot. Looks like brian is safe from loosing our yoke challenge for a little while yet! Was determined not to drop it on the next run with 320 so I was pleased with that at least. Will probably sneak a last yoke session before the comp in next weekend to give 320 a bit more of a run out.

wow another s**tty session. not good news a week and a half out from the comp. been battling with a cold for about 3 weeks now and its not really affected my training so far. I think it did today though loads of aches and zero stamina. I think 4 will have to be the target for the axle at the comp and in this kind of form even thats looking a bit shakey. Im not sure what 10 reps of a 45kg standard dumbell will translate to on a thick handled 50kg. maybe 6 or 7?

1, maybe 2 with a push Tongue

nah man, when you have a light week leading up to the comp you will gain a lot of supercompensation from your hard training. Also, coupled with OD on caffeine, shouting, comp atmosphere, and the fear of fat vegan beating you will boost your strength for sure mate.

lol yeah I hope so! The axle is the only event im sweating on because of the cardio factor hopefully the adrenaline will give me the kick up the arse I need. Ill do a bit of interval training next week to try and improve my fitness too.

After 2 s**t sessions I felt alot better today. Deads felt strong and 250 is looking more and more possible for the comp. Nothing too stressfull with the squats just plenty of reps to keep me ticking over. I think ill do some yoke on sunday, take the rest of the week off from heavy lifting and do a couple cardio sessions. and then..........THE PAIN!
