It was TOUGH yesterday mate, and I too felt like quitting, just felt "not right" and couldnt was struggling to keep any water down even though I knew I needed it. Hope to see you as strong but fitter at the next one (The Inbetweeners????).

you gave it a really good go Will! if you've identified conditioning as a weakness work hard at it and come back stronger in your next comp!

cheers lads.

Training today:

Log press (first rep cleaned):

80kg 4 x 6
90kg 3 x 3

One-motion log clean + press:

80kg 3 x 5

Hanging leg raises:

BW 3 x 10

first session back after a comp is usually a shambles but I had a plan and stuck to it which seemed to pay off. havent trained log from the chest since before sugdens 1 so was very rusty. used to be all legs and no press but I seemed to have switched to the opposite now. leg drive was more of a hinderance than a help tbh. will hopefully get back into the swing of it with more practice. one motions were solid.

Solid work on the Log Will. I need to formulate a plan with log as everytime i train it seems to end up being a max singles session.

cheers lads. I was sorely tempted to chuck another 20kg on the log but resisted.

I think youve got to train the averages with strongman. max log does come up now and again but 9 times out of 10 itll be reps. so the way I look at it you need to prepare yourself mainly for what youll face in competition whilst still keeping your hand in with the less common variations. dont always practice what I preach though. Buuuuuut, the higher your 1RM is, then the easier to get reps with the same (less) weight is!
e.g if your MAX LOG was 140, then reps with 100 would be easier than if your MAX LOG was 120!

not that simple. if the 140 presser has trained heavy singles all the time to achieve his big 1RM but the 120 presser trains mostly volume, im not so sure there would be as big a difference in their repping ability as the 20kg difference in their 1RM would suggest.

But how much volume can he train with a 120 max? triples, 5s with 100? Can't be much more? How many can the 140 guy do based off that max?

Embrace the max. Grin

Heavy singles seems to carry over to repping events in comps fairly well for me.

Nice little session, Will. I'm having a few days off.

im not saying there isnt a correlation. there clearly is. I just dont think training max log all the time is the most sensible way to get good at log for reps!

will is right.

And kev would probably agree, since his triple PB is the same than mine, 100, but has done 122 and i am struggling to get 110 at the moment.
