That's not very relevant to what I'm saying, at least, what was your max dead before that comp?

240kg dead before the comp. 6 months later and no "heavy" work for about 3-4months, i pulled 272.5

Bananas - I must have missed something because you're putting down your 32k pb down to 180-190 higher rep sets 6+ months earlier. What is "heavy"?

Duncan - The man did board presses, then it was said "where's the hypertrophy work", and now you're saying he should do board presses. What is heavy heavy weights? If you or bananas are talking about hitting PRs every go and pushing the heavy singles on the accessory stuff then no I didn't mean that but I didn't mean go through the motions 10 reppers.

(BigKen was right in his first post)

IMO, the purpose of board work is to overload the triceps and increase your tricep strength, by using a medium grip and reps in the 3-6s, not doing a comp grip 1RM test(except when used as a ME exercise, where it should still be performed with a medium grip IMO.)

lol.. i hate to clutter up tobys log.

early 09 i pulled 240 after a cycle of 5x5 or something. previous pb was 205. Trained for the britains naturals which was 180 axle for max reps. didnt touch anything over 200 for the 3-4 months leading up to the comp. but was doing max reps at 180/190 for those months.

2 or so weeks after the comp i pulled 272.5 and then pulled 280 the following week.

who knows if thats the reason for the 32.5kg pb. was just using it as an example as im sure my hammys and lower back got bigger in size during that period.

EDIT - i would consider "heavy" to be something you couldnt rep for 5. so like 90%+

I only gotta look at Tobys' squat progression over the last month. I think that it speaks volumes. He's getting stronger.

I have read through all the posts and i am sticking to my current routine (i do 2 bench days a week, not just one - so theres quite a lot of support exercises within the week) Training bench like i am doing has helped me out a lot in the past few weeks and i am making faster progress than i was doing before - if it aint broke, why fix it.

Anyway, back to training:

Deadlift Day

Deadlifts
1 x 8 70kg
1 x 5 100kg
1 x 5 140kg
1 x 2 160kg
1 x 2 175kg (belt)

Speed Deads
8 x 3 145kg (belt)

Romanian Deadlifts
3 x 10 100kg

Good Mornings
3 x 8 70kg

Dumbbell Rows
2 x 8 (per arm) 50kg

Reverse Grip Pulldowns
3 x 8 80kg
