Hi

Some of you may recognise me from PLUK where I've been posting my routine since September last year. My name is Sam and I'm a surgical doctor living, working and training in Oxofrd. I enjoy lifting weights, and did my first comp at the BWLA South Mids last year. In the last 5 months my training has been going well, I've put on about 9kg BW and my lifts have improved. I'm aiming for an equipped 220kg squat, shirted 150kg bench, and 230-240 pull @ 90kg BW by October this year when I intend to do the South Mids for the second time. This will hopefully give me the 600+ total I so desire. I am fairly new to tight single ply kit and have been introducing wraps into my training. My best gym lifts to date are a slightly high 180kg raw squat (lol), a 125kg bench for a fairly easy single and 117.5kg for a triple and a 212.5kg pull.

Here is my youtube page: http://www.youtube.com/user/thedoc13680

I will be posting my routine both here and on PLUK. Advice and comments are more than welcome.

Hey mate, been reading your log on PLUK for a while, always interesting to see BWLA lifters with a Westside approach - best of luck with the training!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes guys!

Rob. Hi mate. I'm starting to wonder about following a purely Westside template as far BWLA/IPF lifting is concerned. I still think that the conjugate method produces f**king strong athletes but I'm really starting to doubt whether it produces strong IPF powerlifters.

Welcome aboard, Sam. We have a powerlifting doctor called Sam at Adlington too - he's doing the BWLA NW unequipped on the 13th, in fact.

My own personal theory (and I cannot stress its worthlessness enough) on conjugate lifting in the context of the IPF is related to the fact that I think, based on my own experience, that getting from a BPC-depth squat to an IPF-depth squat involves a step change in how technical the lift is and so means you need to work the actual competition lifts more. Also, I think the less-wide stance that you need when you're walking a lift out means that it's less posterior-chain dominant, so some of the theory breaks down.

I know f**k all though.

Surely the point in a 'conjugate' method would be thast you would pick lifts that combined helped your comp lifts. So if you used less or more equipment or squatted narrower you would pick the lifts that helped you, not just posterior chain lifts. Thw whole point in them using so much posterior chain and tricep work in the programme is that it helps get them stronger with their form. Applying that to an IPF formed lifter blindly wouldnt make much sense.

Welcome to the site mate!
