Don't know. French influence with words like peloton and phrases like tÍte de la course and the like?

Did 47.2 km in 1:47 today.

French is pretty much the language of cycling. And used to be language of the peloton. Different types of cyclist are described using French terms too. Cycling always was a European sport back in the day.

Gorgeous weather. I'm slowly getting better at climbs. I went out with a neighbour who's been cycling for nearly 10 years. He was very complementary about my cycling and said I've achieved in 3 months what it took him 2 years to achieve.

Did you piece together all your components, or did you purchase it as is? What kind of frame is it? My life is booked. I so much want to start riding once again. I weigh 240 pounds and I blow tires as I recall.

Hey mate. Nice to see you in here.

I've got a very basic road bike (£330) but it's decent enough. Bought it ready to ride off the peg. Aluminium frame with carbon forks. 240 pounds of man flesh will make you sweat a lot on anything steeper than 5%. Just make sure your tyres are well inflated!

I have large American branch to my family. Uncles and cousins all over the place; Ohio, Texas, Washington

I'm 20 minutes away from Steubenville Ohio. I live by the Pittsburgh International Airport. The weight class I enter in strongman is,200-231 pounds. Soon when I stop doing strongnan, I will drop to 200 pounds, and save my rims. I like roadies better than mountain bikes. I rather NE on the road. No ticks/bugs. My wife told me a little girl got Lyme Disease by a tick.

50.7km in 1:51

Haven't had time for the bike until today so instead did three 5k runs through the week at 5min/km pace.

Bodyweight was 86kg this morning. People at work have started asking me whether I've lost weight and I actually got called skinny yesterday so it must be showing.

5k run at 5:30 pace.

Seem to be sitting comfortably at 86ish BW now. A bit more weekly volume and I'll be at 85kg. Any more weight loss will require some dietary changes and/or significantly more time on the bike. The first option doesn't appeal to me cause I like my grub but the second option does. I'm on holiday for 2 weeks this month but as of August I can play about with my commute to work and that's where I reckon I can get the benefit of commuting miles under my belt.

Now I'm slightly quitter at work, Ive extended my commute to take in a few more hills (~430m every morning). It's at least stopped me from losing much fitness, although perhaps not gained any.

I've always found hills a decent way to help with the weight loss.

That's a decent pre-working day effort. I'd like to figure out something like that when I move to working at a hospital 2k away from where I live. Basically, I'll be able to devise loops that start and end at home/hospital. Aiming for 10 miles on say operating theatre days and say 20 miles on less arduous clinic days. That should give me 60 or so miles per working week. Add say a 40-50 miler on the weekends I'm not working and I've got 100+ miles a week.

I once asked a Frenchman what they called the six yard box in football. I was interested as football is a British invention and the laws were written well over a hundred years ago and therefore use entirely imperial measures. For example the goals are eight feet by eight yards.

His answer - "le box six yards"

Great story mate. Thanks for popping in too. I'm sure you've heard this before, but you're a great raconteur.

Re exercise, I've been doing occasional short (4-5km) runs at 4:30 pace. Cycling mileage hasn't been great but this will change as of August. I've enjoyed the last 3 months and can tootle on pretty nicely at 28km/h without much effort. My hill climbing is much better for short inclines and my BW has dropped from 92kg to 86kg. I'm ready to take this to the next level now with more mileage and more hill work but need to have a holiday first.

Holidaying at home this year. I've hired a mini van type thing and we're going round the country 'en masse' as a group of 8-10 people with all our stuff. I've been nominated as driver (which I actually don't mind) and today kicks off with 400km of driving.

That's very kind Dr H. Usually the chaps at the gym just tell me to shut the phuck up. It's nice to be appreciated once in a while.

BW was 84.6kg immediately post bike ride today. Unrealistically light as some of this is dehydration weight loss but I'm consistently weighing 85-86 in the mornings these days. Still not doing anything about nutrition yet (I still do things like eat McDonald's lol) but I don't feel I need to. Not for now anyway.

Weather's been shocking for several days so have replaced road sessions with ones on the turbo. Did my second 40 min session on the turbo today. It's ok but staring at a shed wall isn't particularly inspiring.

Trying to do interval style sessions on the turbo cause that way I can hurt myself over 30-40 min sessions. Long steady state type workouts would probably be too boring without scenery going past.
