Another 40 mins on the turbo.

Essentially I do 3 mins easy and 2 mins hard x8

I keep the cadence at 90/min - this is an estimate as I don't have a means of measuring cadence.

Easy is level 2. Hard is level 5 (the hardest setting on this turbo).

I don't measure power or heart rate and use my wrist watch to measure times.

Maybe I need to make these sessions more 'scientific' lol.

Just over 57 commuting miles today. Was fairly pleasant apart from getting charged £2.30 for a half of coke at a pub just outside Oxford on the way home.

It was shocking mate. I'm used to high prices round here, but this was ridiculous. I was choking for a bit of sugar and caffeine so price was irrelevant. I felt I needed to get my money's worth so used the toilet for a poo (even though I didn't really need to do one lol). Small man win.

I paid 3,50 euros for a half of coke the other day. And then they tried to charge me a euro to use the toilet.

If it'd been in the UK id have pissed up the wall.

Just over 200km on the roads this week and two 40 min interval sessions on the turbo.

Since doing the 'switch' in April, I've lost a stone in bodyweight and feel great for it. I thought I'd have some sort of identity crisis or suffer some major depression, but none of that happened! In fact, the experience was invigorating. I don't have any real aches or pains and feel like I have a lot more energy for things. My blood pressure (which was never high) is lower and so is my resting HR. I realised I was fitter than others a few weeks ago when a group of us went up 7 flights of stairs at work and I could still speak in full sentences at the top. There was also no sweating involved. In fact, I sweat far less than I used to. Even difficult 12 hour shifts at work seem to hurt less. I can run after my little boy all day too. It's just these little things that I've noticed that make me think that I may have found something here.

Think I got too dehydrated on my ride today. Been drinking water since lunchtime and have had no urge to pee till now. Need to remember to drink more on rides.

The other thing I'd like to work on is cadence. I'm a 70/min heavy gear kind of guy but I'd like to spin at 90 and make it eventually feel natural.

Ive always really struggled with hydration. I just don't get thirsty on the bike. I've consciously made an effort to drink more, and used to eat foods on the bike that most would think dry, knowing they made me drink.

Really pleased to read that you're enjoying it mate.

It's great and I think I've gone beyond the new fad stage. I'm still interested.

My wife makes the driest ever brownies known to man. I'll take some with me.

Have you told her that?

It worked at getting me in the habit of drinking. I also set myself a rule of 500ml an hour. Plenty of people set alarms to remind themselves too.

I just hate drinking warm water which is what you end up getting after about 15 mins in this weather. It just puts me off reaching for the bottle. Maybe there's some advantage to winter training!

Get one of those "Big Chill" water bottles off Amazon and keep it in the fridge when not on a ride - stays cold for ages!

Great idea. Bought one.

So, BW is now comfortably plateauing at 84-85kg which is where I thought it would naturally sit at. I can weigh as little as 82.5kg post ride but that's cheating.

I'd like to shave a couple a kgs off myself and another couple off the bike and I reckon that'll allow me to take my cycling a notch up or two. I just love eating and drinking too much! Buying a lighter bike is the easy bit. Maybe an early Christmas present.
