considering you hadnt trained the sandbags you still did a very good time, the 100kg sandbag was a boulder basically,

you hadnt done much raw deadlifting so the car deadlift can be improved very fast in a short period of time.

phenominal technique on the farmers , took a wider bend around the cone-(no one else did) and had the grip strength to push it until you were out of energy.

hand over hand fantastic form, very fast back to the rope with full body extension.

pressing looked easy.

Smalls - yes I am a tad disappointed, but not gutted. I put in a decent performance in front of loads of friends and family and had a great day out. I'll be training my arse off for next year's comp as this one was awesome - that title will be mine!!Grin

Kenny - Shane Burns was the winner. He is the owner of SV gym Bolton and it was most of his kit that we used. He fully deserved it as he was very consistent on all events. Should be another good 105er into the mix for next year.

Joni - big thanks to yourself, Traps and Marsbar for coming along to support, was great to have you guys there - even if you did get laughed at for shouting encouragement at me. Grin Apparently the comp is going to be there again next year again. They reckon there was 1000+ people there spectating yesterday at the peak. Already looking forward to next year!!

Josh - nice to meet you and chat to you yesterday mate. You did very well and have excellent potential. Sandbags are something that I just blagged really, as I usually move pretty well carrying stuff. I need to get some though as that loading medley we did is PERFECT conditioning work for strongman. Deadlift will be NAILED this year - as you say, I think there a big improvements to be made with the right training, both raw and in the suit. Farmers have always been a good event for me - my grip is stronger than my entire body/legs which is a bit strange, but I'm not complaining... Hopefully we can get together for some sessisons either at mine or Mo's place in the future.

Cheers Boarski. X

13th August

First of all I want to say that this comp was awesome. Great venue right in the middle of the town centre. Great crowd cheering us on all day. DJ, promo girls, enthusiastic MC all made for a smashing comp. Andy (the organiser) really pulled this one out of the bag. I'm already looking forward to next year!

8 guys, some massive and lots of unknowns. Danny Loudon, last year's winner, was there. Few other random beasts too, including Glen Bailey, Mark Pickering (180 bench x 8!), Teddy M (285kg puller), Andy Brandwood (130kg strict presser) amongst others. I felt very small to say the least...

Overhead medley 70kg sandbag, 100kg axle, 110kg log, 120kg axle
2nd place - all 4 objects pressed, not sure of time.

No one else had managed all 4 before me, so was very pleased to nail them. I could have gone a little faster but just wanted to make sure I got them all as this was the event I had been having lots of doubts about beforehand. Shane managed all 4 as well slightly faster than me.

Sandbag loading 100kg water barrel carried 10m, then 70kg, 90kg and 100kg sandbags carried 10 metres and loaded over a bar approximately 58" high.
1st place - I beat Shane by 0.1 of a second.

Was fairly comfortable, but had me blowing for a few mins afterwards.

Van deadlift Side handles, 170kg of weight added in the boot.
6th place

Managed 8 resp on this, which surprised me. I was expecting less than this as there were no suits allowed. Way off the pace though, with 3 guys getting 17-18 and Shane getting 20 for the win. I foolishly stopped for a rest after 8 and when I went back to it it wouldn't budge - should have just kept going! With a bit of training on this I'm sure I could improve it quite a lot - lesson learnt!

Arm over arm sprinter van over 18 metres
3rd place

17.xx secs. I was a little bit surprised at the difficulty of the initial pull, then, like a novice, I missed the next 2 crucial pulls with my right hand and just puled with my left. I got into a good rhythm after that and did a decent run, BUT i feel my little mistake at the start cost me here. Shane got second place, so it was this point that I realised the dream was over! (For this year).

Farmers walk 2 x 120kg railway sleepers for maximun distance.
1st place

45 metres (2 turns at 20 and 40 metres). Good to finish with a bang. These were very awkward implements to turn with, hence the shorter distance than I have done in training.

Overall 2nd place.

Reasonably pleased with my performance, but disappointed not to be Bolton's Strongest Man. I will train my arse off for this comp next year as I WANT that title! Grin

thanks for the belief man, your the strongest 103kg man Ive ever seen, retarded grip, I didnt have a technique for the bloody boulder shape sandbag and just wasted energy.

If I would of seen someone do it I would have been able to have a technique in mind, the diameter was just boggling, will be training stones at mo's for next comp on 28th so dont for see this being a weakness at all very soon.

needless to say im making a 110kg sandbag boulder shape to practise for next time.
