What's the weight like big man?

Did you get chance to play about with the slightly higher deadlift?

Weight @ 93kg just now. Should be fine, that's fed and hydrated.
I set it up about 18.5 but didn't feel great trying to do the technique you had. Kit always feels a bit different on the day...see how it goes on the day.

Saturday 2-11-13 BSM U90kg

Best training I've had coming into an event. Everything had gone we'll in training and had my weight nicely under control. Going into the comp there were 3 events I was happy with (clean and press, yoke/farmers and axel DL) and the rest were completely unknown. So overall I was confident but knew it would be a very tough comp with some very good competitors meaning that on the day all the places were up for grabs.

Event 1- clean and press 75s
6 reps -2nd

Felt confident going into event. Reps are a killer though. Thinking back could have pushed harder so maybe 7 was there. Watching James though it wouldn't have mattered as he had plenty more in the tank. Happy to get 2nd on this.

Event 2- 300kg yoke - 125kg farmers 15m
18. Something- not sure of placing
Reasonable event for me. I'm normally consistent on these events. Not sure where I placed. Top 5 I think. Happy enough with this one

Event 3-medley -tyre, barrell, barrell, sandbag, anvil, 125kg barrell

Not sure of all the weights but it was an event I think everyone was dreading. I was first up. With all the chat before hand I thought I would take my time and just get through it. First 3 went up easily, messed about too much on sandbag and anvil pick up, so lost a few seconds there. Legs were gone on the last barrell, but got it to the platform. I was thinking there is no way I'm wasting all that energy to get it there and not load it! Got it up thankly fully
1min 40 something- not sure of place. Quite a few guys after me weren't completing, so was happy with my time.

Event 4- 3 car/van pull

Phil went before me and did an excellent time. Said it felt light and was easy. Probably had this in my head a bit, cause I didn't find it easy. I was all over the place but managed to finish in an average time. Not happy with this one as I lost a few points here.

Event 5- 18inch axel DL -75s
13 reps - joint 3rd

Confident going into event. Tom had gone before me and got 16 so that was the target to chase. Felt really good but straps started to slip and stopped a few times to tighten. Pissed off at end cause I knew there was more there if I didn't mess about with my straps. Lessons learned. Never really had that problem before on an axel.

Event 6- 100kg barrell press, 150kg duck walk load, 110kg log, 170kg duck walk load, 70kg dumbbell

Was lying in 3rd spot 0.5 points off Tom in 2nd and 4.5 point off phil in 4th. James by this point was way ahead. It pretty much came down to the last event for podium spots and world qualifiers.

I messed about on the barrell, needing a couple of attempts to press it. It got worse, could for the life of me load the 150 duck. Ended up zercher squatting it onto platform. By this time I was gassed. The log pick up felt easy and it went up surprisingly easy for me as log isn't my strength. Again messed about on the 170 duck, taking a couple of attempts. Rushed into the dumbbell but without enough time nor energy the attempt was in vain. Without knowing the overall scores I knew it would be close.

Overall-4th. Joint 3rd with Stig on points but he beat me on count back

Overall happy to get the qualifying spot . Disappointed with my performance as mistakes in the pull, deadlift and overhead medley cost me crucial points and there's no way I can get away with that with the quality of the guys competing.

Well done to James, who looked comfortable all day to dominate the comp, Tom, a great competitor, and Stig who fought hard all day and looked to give everything and more. Also well done to all the other competitors for a great competition and support and camaraderie throughout the day.

Thanks to Dave and Ant and the rest of their crew for the comp. it's great that the 90s guys have a BSM run by someone with such enthusiasm for u90 strongman as Dave.

Onwards to next year and the Worlds!
