no matter what sport your in the question of who is the greatest will always be debated and not everyone will agree.
just out of curiosity i would like to see your thoughts on the greatest strongman final of all time and who would come out on top?
heres some names i would add in no paticular order:

jeff capes
terry hollands
bill kazmier
marious pudzianowski
jon paul sigmarson
derek poundstone
big z
sven karlson
magnus ver magnuson
jouko ahola

i think that would make for a tasty final who would win f**k knows??
whats your top 10 and who would win?

good session ross, how are you finding close grip? thats a solid sesh. maybe going slightly closer than your normal bench will help your shoulder, as you know im a narrow grip high bencher but over the past few months ive started putting my wedding fingers over the rings on the bar witch is really wide for me and to be honest my bench aint moved up any! i think i get more power from the bottom of the bench when im close grip but thats just me? i hit an easy 180 a while back and i cant remember if i was close or wide Confused in the last comp i done bench iwas really close and hit 172.5kg so im thinking going bak to narrow and forgeting everything ive done over the past few monthsGrin

im looking forward to watching you in the unequipped i think you will be posting some big numbers

aye stephen meaning the unit one. its good your doing that m8t im gonae give it a go although just like yourself i didnt win the 1st timers and aint done a novice yet and im jumping straight into an openGrin fukit m8t as i said id rather come last at an open with the best in scotland than be in the top 5 at a noviceGrin

FRIDAY:

the plan today was bencn n deads, only a week away from comp and i feel as if my bench is getting lower i think i hit my peak a few weeks back wen i done a comfy 180 although i was heavier lost a few kilo since then dont know if thats maybe affected me a little.
i hadnt eat all day had a sandwitch and a milkshake before gym heres how it went:

BENCH:
70kg x 15
70kg x 15
110k x 5
155k x 2
155k x 2
155k x 2
and if im being honest 155kg werent ipf not proper pause head down n s**t!

DEADLIFT:
140kg x 2
180kg x 2
220kg x 1
260kg x 1
270kg x 1 little leg shake but locked out ok

this was totally against the plan for today i was meant to do reps but not having eaten all day and being the lazy ass c**t i am did doubles n singlesHappy
still pleased i pulled 270 feeling s**t. i think thats me untill the comp next sunday i will prob do some tri's and bi's during the week lots of light body building just to give me the feel good factor back.
my expectations for the comp are pretty basic if i equal my previous pbs of 180kg and 280kg i will be happy Grin

martinb said:For the first time in as long as I can remember I went drinking mid-week, so missed my Thursday morning session. Therefore 2 truncated sessions in one today

Close grip bench 110kg for 5reps, 130kg for 3reps, 150kg for 2reps(pretty comfy, could have got more, but log pressing tomorrow so took it easy)

Squat atg 120kg for 5reps, 140kg for 3 reps, 160kg for 1reps (very easy, just getting used to form, and again training tomorrow)

Dips bodyweight 25reps

Chins bodyweight 8reps

nice close grip m8t, try not get too strong martin im competing against you

i might be up for this comp i know i'd get my ass handed to me but i would rather mix it with the big boys and come last than compete in a novice no disresrect to any novice guys i just think the experence would be worth it Happy

your sqauts are looking good ross and a 120 bench with a shoulder injury aint too shabby either.

stephen said:Just curious. Do you normally work up to a single when training deadlift? Do you do any partial deadlifts?

awrite stephen, no i usually do doubles atleast or 3reps but i felt weak and couldnt get annother rep without hitching so decide to do singles. i dont really have a set routine on deadlift usually heavy at the start of the week then reps at the end of the week. i wont be back in the gym till fri so i'll have to do bench and DL together heavyish bench light deads.

i never do partials or high deads i prob should and do more to mix it up a bit.
