Hi All

I met a few people off of here on Sunday at the GBPF Unequipped Powerlifting championships (Mike Smith, Brad Cutler and Paul Richards) and I figured I would start a journal of my own as I enjoy reading theirs alot.

I only started training for powerlifting properly not long ago this year and only have a measley 2 competitions under my belt so please try and bear with me and any advice would be greatly welcomed. Grin

Origionally I had planned to take a complete weeks rest this week as I was having problems with cramping muscles and as a result reduced strength at the comp on Sunday, but me be being dumb ass me I couldn't resist doing a session today when I went in to help one of my training partners prepare for an up coming comp.

It went a little like this ...

Bench Press
2 x 12 50 kgs
1 x 5 80 kgs
1 x 2 100 kgs
1 x 1 120 kgs
1 x 1 140 kgs
1 x 1 150 kgs

Floor Press
2 x 5 140 kgs
1 x 1 150 kgs

Seated Barbell Shoulder Press
1 x 4 90 kgs
1 x 5 90 kgs

One Arm Cable Pushdowns
1 x 12 (each side) 21 kgs
1 x 12 (each side) 21 kgs

Dumbell Hammer Curls
2 x 24 30's kgs

Overall I am pleased with this session today, I didn't go flat out as I think I need a little longer rest to reach full speed, but it was a good start to my next block of training.

I was very disappointed with my bench press and deadlift at the comp on Sunday, I failed 150 kgs on the bench which to be honest is a pretty easy weight for me these days so I tried it again today just to make sure it was a one off blip. I also failed a 245 kgs deadlift and again this should be a weight I hit reasonably comfortably so depending on how I feel fri or sat I might have a pop at a 250 just to get it out of my system.

Cheers mate, from the looks of things your a very strong lifter yourself. I've actually followed your log for a wee while but only recently started posting, it's a great read.

Sadly I won't be competing at the comp in Nov, I live up in sunny Scotland and another trip back up to Bournemouth so soon is a bit much for me. Good luck for the comp though, I'm sure you'll really enjoy it!

Yet again I had complete disregard for proper rest and decided to have a pop at a deadlift workout today. It went a little like this ....

Deadlift
1 x 10 70 kgs
1 x 5 120 kgs
1 x 1 160 kgs
1 x 1 200 kgs
1 x 1 230 kgs
1 x 1 240 kgs

Speed Deadlift
3 x 1 180 kgs

Rack Pulls From The Knee
1 x 1 250 kgs
1 x 1 260 kgs
1 x 1 260 kgs

Barbell Shrugs
2 x 12 200 kgs

Kroc Rows
1 x 25 (each side) 50 kgs

Overall pretty pleased with this workout, again I didn't go flat out quite simply because I knew I wasn't capable of doing so yet as I'm still sore and not yet fully recovered from comp. Origionaly I had planned to have a go at a 250 kgs deadlift tonight, but after the 230 I knew it wouldn't happen today so instead did the ugliest rep at 240 kgs ever lol.

I've been advised that the lock out part of my deadlift is what I need to work on the most so I'm going to start doing alot of rack pulls from the knee from now on, only worked up to 260 kgs tonight, but they felt good.

Next week will be a week of messing about with maxes for me so I shall try the 250 kgs deadlift then and with a little bit of luck get it. Happy
