Mainly to keep the shirt in place and stop it from moving. I tried benching with a belt, did feel a bit tighter but didn't really add anything,

IMO to start or keep fires going I'm not a user of straps TBH even though I have them in my training bag; the only really time I've used them was for trap bar deadlift holds and when I was working on my snatch routine (just to keep hold of the bar through the movement) I know there's a time & a place for them but training without them until you REALLY need them is best IMO Guys at the gym use them as you said above for all back and other exercises and then complain theyve got a s**tty grip

he's got betty davis eyes Member 1684, 6001 posts SQ 250, BP 186, DL 291727.0 kgs @ 118kgs UnEq | I use them for max pulls or heavy sets on deadlift once my grip has given out. I also use them for DB rows sometimes, as my grip is very poor and I find it fails before I get any decent work done. If I had a great grip i wouold never use them. Basically only use them if your grip gives out before the rest of you. I started using a belt on bench recently, as I liked having something to push against, and it certainly helped.

Chalk is an absolute must, especially if you have little girly sweaty hands (like me) for deads but chalk is used on farmers, log, all forms of pressing, squats, yoke.................
