Boards went well, I was a bit disappointed not to get the 300lbs as the 135 was nice and smooth; it just totally stuck to the boards though, despite a nice descent - so it was either lack of strength or energy, not form! Bit of discussion with Alan and the plan is to swap to 2 boards now, the 4 board work has been nice but my sticking point has moved lower. Finished off with a good chat about Koklyaev, Olympic lifting, communism and how China are set to dominate in the future. | ||

It's funny how there isn't a lot in it between our boards but he is obviously a much stronger bencher, probably because my shoulders are so weak to his - my chest strength isn't a million miles behind. I think the difference is some shoulder strength, full range tricep strength and experience. Nothing more. The shoulder strength is easy to take care of. But I doubt you'll have any close grip benching in the routine for a while, and for me, thats the key. I still maintain the best exercise for a raw bencher is narrow grip benching. And hell, I was told that by a 600lb bencher! | ||

Didn't work. 5 minutes of various attempts with different angles and different door handle positions. Still no joy. Various conspiracy theories floating in my head now; is there a secret members entrance round the back? Is it a dud key? f**k it, let's ring Millsy and get his advice. After a quick chat, I realise I have been using my house key for the past 5 minutes. Try the correct key, bingo, I'm in.
