Qualty pulling Phil. Did some hard 5's squating last week. 1st time doing hard 5's in over a year and it killed me.

Yeah, doing 5s is hard mate. I think they are awesome for squats. What rep range do you normally do Ian?

Oh and thanks T, up to 240 next time for 5s, Im a tad stronger than last time I did 5s so hopefully it should translate to a bigger single

1-2 with occasional tripples. My squat last year was built around doing a lot of singles (not max's) with some doubles thrown in. Add in some box squating a little GM's and that was it.

This year I plan to go down the reps from 5 to singles and see how that pans out. Probably 2 weeks at each rep range before going round again. I'll also be adding in the equipped squat to.

Am looking forward to the meet in feb! Emailed the organiser yestardy to put me name down.

Thanks Sivvy, that is a mighty fine bird!

Marc, I have done 5x5 on and off for a couple of years now, I love it. Although it can be a bit repetitive, the results are worth it. I also do other rep ranges like 3x3/3s/1s. Sometimes off season I may go with higher bodybuilding style reps.

Anyway, I was sick on friday, Im guessing with the same bug everyone else has got. I still trained after though and had a good session.

Seated military press
20x20
60x8
95x6
95x6
95x6 this equals the best I have done on this set/rep scheme and it was comfortable

EZ bar curls
20x12
57.5x6
57.5x6
57.5x6

20mins stairs, 10mins treadmill powerwalk.

And after this I felt rough as f**k. I didnt want to go in to work the next day but other people were off sick so I had no choice. I rested as much as possible and feel good today. As I am benching tuesday and working all day and night tomorrow I have to squat at 6:30 tomorrow morning! Luckily Sivvy is a dedicated man also, and will be squatting with me.

I trained with Carl yesterday morning at stupid oclock.

Squats
20x10
60x10
100x8
140x5
180x3 belt from here on
197.5x5
197.5x5
197.5x5
197.5x3
197.5x2 tank was empty!

Front squats
125x6
125x6
125x6

Standing calf raises
100x8
290x6
290x6
290x6

A good session. Had to wait a while for the rack though, so I spent a bit more time on gentle cardio to warm up. Although I didnt get all 5 sets I was pleased as I felt very strong, its just that it is hard to keep doing sets of 5 that are so close to your max.

I am sure of it too. More in some people, however I heard Phil say his 5's where closer to a pb than most? I found 180x5x3 hard work let alone 3 fives with pretty much 200!

What are you aiming for squat wise on the 17th Phil. Don't worry if you don't want to talk about it, cards to chest etc etc! I will be going for 230 on my 3rd attempt, as long as 1 and 2 go in that is!

Yes, my squat does seem to be better at reps than singles but then I rarely do singles raw so perhaps I need to do lower reps to get stronger at them.

Thing, I never used to have problems with my wrists, perhaps Im just turning in to a girl! If I use a straight bar I can cope, but the pain just gets progressively worse each week. There is still a little pain with the EZ, but nowhere near as bad.

Oh, Iain, Im not shy about talking about what I hope to get. Im hoping for a minimum of 220, but depending on how it goes I may try to follow what you have already done and go for 500lbs (227.5). We will see mate. 230 will be excellent for 90kgs.
