Bodyweight 91.8kg this morning. Weigh in is 11.00am then looks like at least 2.00 before i will be lifting so 3 hours to get fluids and some food in me and digested.

Head still a little sore and fuzzy from the accident but won't affect things.

Cheers lads...alas 300 was not to be today but it went ok none the less!

Okay..day before comp day woke up under target weight but that was butt naked and wanted to get as low as possible in bodyweight so food was limited to a 6 egg spinach omlette for breakfast, 50g whey midmorning, 400g turkey mince and spinach mid day and then 50g whey with a handfull of nuts at 4pm. Water was limited to 200ml every 2 hours but i must admit by 8pm that night my mouth was very dry and head was splitting from the accident the night before so i sucked on a sugar free ice pop. Had a hot bath at night and wrapped up a little over night to aid sweating. Slept well and woke up well under weight with boxers and t shirt on but had another hot bath to sweat some more off and had nothing to eat or drink. Weigh in was meant to be 11 am for my weight class.

Got down to the gym around 10.20 to be told i could weigh in so got on the scales and came in at 90.5kg bang on...my scales appear to be out by 1kg Happy Following weigh in i sat in the gym and ate and drank until quite full then headed home and went to bed for an hour, surprisingly fell straight asleep. Woke up and banged some more drink down me and some salty cashew nuts and some chocolate, tapped food off around half 12 but continued to sip drink.

Headed back down the gym and watched the end of the ladies and under 73 and 83kg men lifting, an insanely strong under 73/74kg (not sure of that class) nailed some big lifts, i knew straight away this years line up was much tougher than last years!

Feeling pretty good i met the lady who had done the foot assessment for me a few weeks earlier and my custom insoles had arrived! Slot them in and they felt great so decided to go with them, arrived in the nick of time. Met up with a few other lads in my class and was told our group would be the under 93kg along with the over 120's then headed in to warm up on squats.

Warm ups went well, no excuses but my head was still throbbing from fridays accident but tried to push it out of my mind and crack on, warmed up to 140kg which was silly fast and headed in. Our group was quite small so knew not much rest between attempts was on the cards. My name was called up for my easy opener of 160kg and nailed it fairly easily, comparing it with my 160 opener last year it was massively fast. I had decided before going into the comp my goal was a) not get injured and b) at least equal what i did the year before but nearly 13kg heavier in bodyweight c)try to be sensible and get as large a total as possible. Anyways..the 160kg opener...

Decided to go for my highest lift of last year next of 175kg and it went up a little slower as i rushed the rep and didn't set up as tight as i should have but still went up ok...

Being sensible i went to 180kg for my last attempt and i got set up and form just right and it went up very nicely, tbh i think 185-190 was there but none the less i was pleased to be 5kg up on the previous year at this point and to have got 3 whites on every lift. No video of this as the wife made a mistake!

Feeling good we headed back in to the warm up room and set up for bench. Warm ups felt lovely, helped a few of the other lads who had not competed before with what commands to listen out for and we had a little fun warming up here. I decided to open on 130 as i knew i could nail that easily, warmed up to 120kg and it moved very fast. Headed back to the platform and nailed my 130kg okay. I learnt here i need to be training on a lower bench as the comp bench is waaaay lower! Hate hand offs too and they seemed to release the bar slightly lopsided every time but none the less got on with it...130kg opener...

Decided to be sensible here as i knew i was struggling on this set up so 2nd attempt was set at 135kg, considering i can get 2-3 with this weight usually i made a meal out of the lockout!! Reverse bands this off season will sort this!...135kg...

Seeing as how slow 135kg went i knew 140kg was possible if i got tight enough and got my line bang on so 3rd attempt was set at 140kg. Alas a weight i can nail fairly comfy in training proved too much on the platform, was a little gutted i must admit as i was hoping to top out at 147.5-150kg but the fact my squat was 5kg up on last year to be 5kg down on last year on bench meant i was still on course to equal my last years heavier bodyweight efforts. 140kg fail....

On the 135kg bench i managed to cramp up my back pretty badly and my head was really throbbing but rolled my back out and prepared for 'my' lift. We loaded the bar for deadlift warm ups and tbh they felt great, i went up to 240kg which moved rapidly and gave me confidence but i was feeling pretty tight and tired by this point, despite this i was ready to get the weight lifted...Opener of 260kg felt good, usual slower lockout but never in doubt...

Decided to go with 272.5kg to equal my best comp lift and it was slow but never in doubt...

Figured 300 was not on the cards so was sensible and went with 5kg under my best -280kg, attacked it but i had nothing left in me, shattered and the bar didn't leave the platform lol!...

Despite this i knew i had equalled my best but weighing MUCH less and if hones still not recovered from being knocked out, no excuses, i should and could have done more but lifting in a comp is so much tougher than in a training session, i was wiped out!

We were all called out to be presented with our certificates etc and they handed out in reverse order..i kept waiting to hear my name but it didn't come! They then asked everyone with a certificate to leave the stage and the remaining 5 were the top 5 lifters of the day!! I had made top 5! I couldn't believe it, was a total shock! I was called next and placed 5th, i know if i had got the 140kg bench and the 280kg dead 4th was there but none the less i am thrilled to get where i have and i know on the new training system i am on i can go so much further. I learned a lot from this comp, never had to cut before, never lifted tactically before and i know now small changes i need to make next time.

Today i am tired and happy, a small part of me knows i could have done better but thats my best comp placing ever and i know i can go so much further yet. I have qualified for the mens classic finals i think with this total but i am 99% certain this year i won't be going, i will be taking a week down then starting my off season program under Aarons plans and give myself a good year of solid training on this revolutionary system of his...i've only done 6 weeks of it and i can see it can deliver so much, plan is to get stronger...much stronger and continue trying to lean out at this weight, 700kg @ 93kg is still the aim and i know now the path is set...i'm ready for it.

Quick bodybuilding session today with a few exercise trials for new cycle...

Strict Press

Bar x10
60kg x8
70kg x 5
50kg x 8
50kg x 8

Kept things light and snappy, out of practice but ok.

Push Press

60kg x 10
70kg x 8
80kg x 3
100kg x 1

Well well out of practice but all moved easily.

Lateral Raise

15kg x 10
15kg x 10
15kg x 10

Dirty secret...i love lateral raises...as long as they are strict!

Steering Wheel Front Raise

20kg x 12
20kg x 12
20kg x 12

Good fun these were.

Trial exercises...

Smith Machine Sissy Squat

40kg x 10
60kg x 10
80kg x 10

Sorry DV...i needed to try them! Glad I did tbh as they felt very good, knees not aggrevated at all and quads really feeling it.

Somersault Squats

40kg x 12
60kg x 10
80kg x 8

Feel good...work the quads well but the previous exercise is better.

Back to bodybuilding nonsense...

CGBP

60kg x 10
80kg x 10
100kg x 8

Palms forward incline flye

11kg x 15
11kg x 15
11kg x 15

Felt good...a flye method I can use without tearing my shoulder capsule apart!

And that was that...some rolling and some stretching thrown in there too but a nice easy blood flowing session. Off now until Sunday where I start my new cycle.
