On a related note, any non-smokers out there tempted to try out vaping? I certainly am. I know the e-cigarette target market are people who already smoke conventional cigarettes, but I wonder how many non-smokers out there have gone out to buy them..

Heard a news story the other day on how it's becoming a gateway for under 18s into smoking!

There is a certain romanticism still attached to smoking.

That is very true. We all know that it is s**t and stupid, offensive, dangerous and expensive, it stinks and it kills you.

But

It is uber cool. The first time you hold a cigarette in your hand you realize that it has been missing something all your life and now, for the first time, it is complete. Every thing about it is great and I loved every one I had.

Luckily a motorist stopped me and asked for directions at the top of a small hill, I was 23 at the time and it took me several minutes before I was able to give the directions he wanted.

I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer but I am not stupid. It was the budget the week after and that put the top hat on it. I stopped by the simple method of not putting them in my mouth and lighting them. I also had the foresight to save the money I no longer spent on them. The last packet I bought was 63p and within three years I had saved a grand.

I haven't smoked since, but I still like 'em. No-one ever regrets giving up though and it remains one of my all time best decisions

I used to vape, and found it very effective. It kept my hands busy, and the mental side of hand to mouth was satisfied. It also gives you the ability to reduce nicotine intake should you wish, and there's also nicotine free stuff too.

I lost the charger for my e-lites, and started smoking again. E-lites by the way are RUBBISH.

Definitely go for it - I lasted a good 6 weeks without smoking just from vaping.

1100mah battery - e-lites are about half of this.

Romanticism associated with cigarettes?!

Brown teeth, cracked lips and the omnipresent stench of death is nothing to aspire to!

Every person I know who smokes smells like a farm. A very dirty farm.

So... how many of you smoke? Any quitters? What did you do to distract yourself during cravings?

My brother smokes a lot. Gave up for 9 months using copious amounts of coffee, chocolate and coke (a-cola!) as replacements. Not sure which was worse for him health wise. How's your willpower?

I smoked heavy for 10 years plus. I gave up with the Allen Carr easyway book. There is no glamour to smoking it was tabbaco companys planting the seeds in hollywood movies that gives it that image. Advertising, thats all

This. Not a great deal of romanticism seeing your Grandad bed bound, tubed up to oxygen tanks with barely enough lung capacity to hold a conversation longer then 30 seconds.

It won't happen to us though.....

This!!

When I see young kids smoking I just wonder how f**king brain dead they must be to do something which is so expensive, makes them stink, ages them prematurely and will quite possibly kill them at a relatively young age.

It baffles me. It's not like the evidence that they cause cancer hasn't been around for decades.

It is horribly bad for you....but;

1) It is Arthur Fonzerelli cool.
2) It is a great conversation starter with The Ladies: even these days.
3) No one ever punched someone's lights out in the street because they had one cigarette too many.
4) A beer, a cigarette and a summer evening is a combination made in heaven.

Despite both parents smoking it's never appealed to me. It's actually a reason I stayed with my wife longer than I would have, I didn't want to move back home and have everything of mine stink. When I did move back for a month or so my eyes constantly streamed, throat hurt, I developed a cough and generally hated it.

Both parents have since given up using those vapour things though, and it's much better.

lol! Grin

I class myself as an occassional smoker as I only ever smoke once I've had a couple of pints! Never usually smoke during the week (unless there is booze involved but I can't do school night drinking!) but come weekend I'll go through 40 or more!!!
