Nice write-up Joni, don't know how I missed that. Here's mine:

Unit 20 Novice strength challenge 03/11/07

100kg axle clean and press for reps
5 reps + 1 clean
3rd place

Pretty pleased with that. Need to bring my overhead up now so that I'm hitting double figures with this kind of weight.

15 inch deadlift
200kg, 220kg, 230kg, 240kg
8th place

Only hit 220 in training so pleased with that too. It seemed a bit easier than in the gym, maybe the bar was a bit higher? Really need to bring my deadlift up now as this let me down today.

320kg yoke 11 metres
9.34 seconds
3rd place

A bit all over the place with it as I didn't have it set right on my back (I had the crossbar a bit too high), one drop, but a pretty decent time non-the-less.

280kg frame carry 10 metres up a ramp
6.43 seconds
2nd place (by 0.03 seconds!)

Pretty pleased with this, felt really easy, should have been 300kg at a minimum, prefferably more.

50kg thick handled DB press
10 reps
joint 3rd place

Reasonably happy with that. I have done 12 in training, but it was a different DB and not a 5th event, so can't complain really.

135kg stone over yoke (51 inches)
4 reps
4th place

Overall: 4th place

Should have had the 5th as I'd done all the hard work, but it wouldn't have made any difference to the overall placings.

So overall a pretty good performance for me personally, just not enough to get a trophy (although I was in third going into the last event Mike Daly nailed 8 reps on the stone 135kg which sealed me a fourth spot).

Was a top comp, big thanks to everyone who helped out. Cheers for the goodie bag too, looking forwards to next year already Grin

Joni and Pete did themselves proud, so the dungeon had a good outing. Here's my video:

Axle 100kg for reps

My aim to get one rep was obviously a tough but achievable goal. However, I secretly wanted two reps despite my limited training suggesting that I'd been on the crack pipe too much.

However, secret aim achieved, 2 reps. Happy. 7th place.

Max 15 inch Deadlift

I was thinking of mid 200s. I got 260kg which was quite tough. Passed at 270kg. When I went for 280kg, I think that someone had cheekily added some superglue to the tyres.

Still quite happy with 260kg though. Joint 5th.

320kg Yoke

I felt like I had the strength but on my first two pickups I didn't even move 50cm. Finally found a better position on my back and walked five metres(4.99m) before Mr Murray called time. Easy to say but once I was more comfortable, I thought I could have gone the whole distance on that carry. The time limit was there for a reason though.

Gutted with this as I got LAAAAASSSSSTTTT place.

280kg Frame Walk

Went first due to the Yoke Joke Wink Grin. Pickup was very easy and got into a rhythm but when I accelerated I lost balance and dropped the bas***d. Tried to do a Pudge pickup (mega quick, off balance) but instead had to reset myself which wasted a good few seconds in total.

12 seconds overall for the 10m. About 6th or 7th place.

50kg dumbbell press

Grinded out a rep. 9th place. OK with that on a weak event that I only tried for the first time on Tuesday.

135kg stone

2 reps. The second felt like a real grinder. Joint 5th here.

OVERALL Joint 8th though I was announced as 9th on the day. I suppose everyone could say this but just a bit better on one event(Yoke) could have put me maybe 2 places higher.

Gives me something to work on for next year. Not bad considering my lack of training since July(only 3 gym sessions and 3 events sessions - only one of which was specific to the comp, after having my arm twisted by Brian). My first comp for two and a half years. Can't wait for next year.

BSM qualifiers next year once I've trained properly.Grin Grin

Heres my write up:

Felt pretty good coming into this. Training has been good lately and some s**t talking from joni got me fired up for the comp.

Axle Press - 4 reps Eq PB

Was expecting to get 4 reps. It felt easier than I was expecting so maybe could have got 5 but I was being quite conservative as it was the first event. Equalled my PB.

Deadlift - 250kg +10kg PB

Been training with the aim of getting 250 and got it nailed. 260 was not close. Loved the event.

Yoke - 9m 92cm

This is the only event I wasnt happy with. my prep was wrong for this. I was getting beaten by guys who dropped it 3 or 4 times even though I nearly walked the whole way without dropping it. lesson learned - more speed needed. On the plus side I know if id done it differently id have done alot better. was hoping for better from this.

Frame Walk - 8m39cm

This went ok but I think my bad performance in the yoke affected me. Once I got my rhythm it didnt feel too bad but after a bad start I ran out of time at the end. Im sure I could finish it if I had another crack at it.

Dumbell Press - 6 reps

Was aiming for 6-7 but that was guesswork as ive been training with a 1.5" handle 45kg dumbell. If id planned my reps a bit better I might have got another 1 or 2 but im pleased with it anyway.

Stones (115kg) - 4 reps P f**king B

I chose the 115kg stone because ive only done stones once before at severn valley and only managed 2 reps with 100kg. Over the moon with this because a) Its a massive PB and It gave me enough points to hold off pete and craig from my 7th place. Felt great to finish on a high note.

Overall im pretty chuffed with my 7th place. Given my past performances if youd offered me 7th place 4.5 points behind joni id have bitten your hand off. Especially as joni thrashed me last time we met in competition. I felt alot stronger and better prepared this time.

Got to say well done to Jonathan and Brian for organising a great comp. Everything ran smoothly, the events were awesome and the competitors were treated really well. If you do any more comps you can count me in. Great job guys.

Also it was great to see/meet everyone there. Joni, jonny, pete, jonathan, brian, stephen and all the other competitors were all top blokes.

All in all a f**king great day.

hey these write ups are EXELLENT! Cool

Will, nice to hear that the trash talk did the trick Grin You definitely had a top day, that stone work was really solid! Sounds like you have drawn some great lessons from the comp, which is the whole point of them at this stage i think. Lets find a comp next year to do again, so we can see if you keep up catching me up or taking over Grin

Hey heres my vid from the day:
