thanks buddy, better man is a fluid concept, measured on comp by comp basis!

What a progress from severn valley eh? you more than me i think, but still, lets keep this train on track for some good comps next year Grin

Boar, please dont scare me with stories of weight loss mate Grin I have actually decided to get stronger as i lose fat Angry slow loss is the key. 0.5kg per week max. Plan for this will be written tomorrow at the office.

Hey should probably write my comp write up here as well:

Unit 20 Strength Challenge comp report
Saturday 3rd of Nov 2007

Firstly, thanks to the prganisers/promotors Jonathan, Kathryn and Brian, good job, must have been loads of work to put it all together.

Secondly thanks to the loaders and spotters and other helpers - they made the things run smooth, and to the ref Stuart Murray, his reffing style is calm, collected and clear.

And thanks to Oak for taking the vids of the Dungeon lifters events!

I think anyone who wanted to do this comp and didnt should kick themselves. It was great fun, the weights were heavy, distances short, event variation was good, equipment was top notch, great facilities - and the best sponsored goodie bag I have received so far (thanks to the sponsors riotraining, APT and Innerarmour).

It looked like good time was had by all and PBs were broken all over the place. No doubt everyone came out stronger from this comp.

ok, blow by blow:

Event 1: 100kg Axle, floor to overhead for reps, 120 seconds

Goal:
3 reps
Nailed: 4 reps, shared 4th place

Pressing felt easy, but the continental cleans killed me rep by rep until i had nothing left. Failed the fifth clean which would have given me extra points, but coundt finish it.

Lesson: get better with cleans, should do full cleans not continentals with this kind of weights.

Event 2: Max 15 inch deadlift, raising bar

Goal:
250-260
Nailed: 260kg, shared 5th place

Went 200, 230, 250 and 260. 260 was a real grinder so left it there. Very pleased to nail 260 after 250. Milsys slap helped by 5kg no doubt.

Lesson: get stronger

Event 3: 320kg yoke for 11m in 30 seconds

Goal:
to finish the distance in the given time
Nailed: 25.07 sec, 5th place

Cant complain, dropped the yoke 4 times, but managed to pick it up pretty much straight on and muscled it to the distance. Sometimes this is how my yoke goes. The next guy up, Mike, did 11 seconds so there was no way i could have beaten that time.

Lesson: more practice with yoke. Get those legs moving a bit faster as well.

Event 4: 280kg frame carry up a ramp in 30s

Goal:
finish the distance in the given time
Nailed: 11.02 sec, 6th place

Loved this event. The grip was strong, pick up was easy, and maybe suprised myself a bit there and lost some time. Mike was next one up again with about 8 seconds, which would be tough time for me to beat, so i am pleased. Weight could have been heavier, say 300kg.

Lesson: get faster, learn to shoot straight from the pickup.

Event 5: 50kg thick handle one-arm dumbel press

Goal:
1 rep
Nailed: 0, shared last place

Nothing but myself to blame here. Didnt put in the needed practise, and the technique was not there.

Lesson: dont be stupid.

Event 6: reps with 115 or 135kg stone (any reps with 135 beat 115kg reps)

Goal:
1 rep with 135
Nailed: 2 reps

Was really not sure if i should go for the 115 or 135, but then decided to go for the heavier one after much confusion and waffing around. Nailing that first rep was a great feeling. Second one was a bonus, but then my right hamstring cramped. Went for the third, lapped it, but the hamstring was not playing ball.

Overall placing:

Goal:
6th
Nailed: 6th

Very happy with how things went apart from the dumbell press. One point to the 5th guy, and the dumbell would have been the obvious place to get it, one rep would have been it. Or getting that clean on the axle to edge above Will for an extra point.

Our Dungeon crew did well, we were all happy about how things went not to mention kicking Unit 20 crews arse by a whiskar in overall placings if we calculate it in a way which is favourable to us Wink We also know what we need to focus on in the coming off season.

But I am also very happy that there are no comps for a while Happy

thanks guys.

hey are you missing the scottish link in the music, comp in scotland, scottish folk music singer... got it? no? f**k... i'll put on some american nu-metal next time then Grin

OK! Time to reveal my fat loss plan:

phase 1:

- cut out the crap: sugary drinks, crisps, chips, refined carbs
- add some cardio and conditioning work

Phase 1 will see no dramatics but should still see fat loss of few kgs (fingers crossed).

Re-evaluation by the end of the year.

Just Say NO To Strength Loss!
