I knew we'd had a thread like this before a good while back, so thought I'd find it to see what people said back then: http://www.sugdenbarbell.co.uk/forum.php?a=137

At the minute I'd still like to compete at national level as a junior next year, after that who knows. It's a long road to do anything in the seniors, even winning regional medals.

I would have liked to have had a head on battle with David at next years unequipped, but that won't happen now hes gone bodybuilding Wink I suppose Hayden is my logical opponent, but he is miles fatter than me which is a bit of an advantage.

I already achieved one of my goals which was winning the junior 110 class, but as it was against nobody there wasn't much glory in it!!

humm well long term i want a 140kg log lift strict.

other than that i would like to have a good axle press (over 120)

do a 78kg globe dumbell overhead (thick handle).

one hand lift of 95kg (axle).

viking press 160kg+

behind the neck press with thick bar of 100kg

get a 190kg farmers deadlift.

hummm and learn the old tricks like hammering nails into wood ect with the hand.

oohh and maby get a semi decent total for powerlifting (lol the most unlikely as my deadlift is so poor!).

gives back the sugden crack pipe for the next guy....

DAMM thats moorish.

Those are short-term goals. Last year's master 2 world champion totalled 825. That (the championship, not the total) should be your long-term goal.

I see in the thread I linked to I said 450/350/550 raw long-term. I think I'd push that to 500/400/550; the bench goal might be crazy, but I think I'll get the others.

Not a chance. Never going to happen. Can't imagine ever dipping into the old pocket and pulling out several hundred of my hard earned just to pay for a chance of a title worth nothing. The under 40s go abroad and it costs them nowt. The old folk have to pay. Phuck that as the old saying goes.

It's worth every penny Pete - even when you don't come close to a medal. Not that you would come home empty-handed, of course.

I've got two nice little sayings that might help some of you:

Winners are just dreamers who didn't quit; and

Life is a series of self-fulfilling prophesies.

The road to the Worlds starts in the gym and goes via the regionals and the nationals. Once you put in enough work to enter your first regional, you've taken the first step towards the world stage. Step 2, qualify for the nationals. Step 3, place in the nationals. Step 4, win the nationals. Step 5, British team. Everyone at Step 5 now was once a gym lifter trying to pluck up the courage to take step one. They're not supermen. They're no different to you guys. Slow and consistent improvement year on year and a commitment to succeed will get you far further than you imagine.

Id like to achieve a couple of things in strongman:

- Qualify for and compete in both the englands and britains U105 strongest man natural.

- compete in an open strongman comp at U105 and not come last.

To be honest id be happy just competing as much as possible and having a good laugh doing it though!

Good advice Martin, but I still think he's too tight to dip his hand. 1 paying trip to Europe costs about 10 hours in Oldham, and in Oldham Pete is already world champWink

He's right Martin. You are quite correct in what you say, but as always so is the reasonable looking fellow. It's the paying I object to. If I were a rich man - maybe. But I ain't. I never say never (well not anymore) but I have cranked my imagination up to full power, and I just can't see it.

Get somewhere close to a 300 OL total at 40+, and remain the second best looking bloke at Adlington (2nd best looking to Handsome Fred is good enough for me)

Short term: Make a 600kg total at 82's.

Long term: Complete 635kg raw at the 82's.

Then retire, let my health go to s**t and drink whisky every night!

short term-medium term, 600kg unequipped total in comp (as junior), compete in Strongman, compete in grappling

medium-long term, total 825k+ at 100kg equipped, have a go at oly lifting, even if it's non-competitive...

long term, win BSM Under 105kg, compete in ADCC grappling world champs, have a go at bodybuilding, deadlift 340kg raw, squat 300k raw, bench 182.5k raw.

My one main target I will acheive is coaching younger lifters, maybe even taking and 'grooming' a 12-13 yr old lad to a World Sub-Junior title. That would mean everything to me, to be able to be in a position of that much knowledge and skill. You got to prove you can do OK yourself first though Happy
