I think most people should definitely aim to spend the majority of most training years in a small surplus or maintaining. Keep the cutting too a minimum.

However at roughly 30% body fat at 110kg you were probably right to cut.

The job you have now is to gain slowly, so you don't return to 30% and begin a cycle of yo yo dieting over the next few years. That can be a lot more damaging than one necessary cut. Gain slow, periodically trim up if needs be, continue gaining.

Far better to be in a consistent but small surplus for 6 to 9 months, than large uncontrolled bulks which simply end too fast.

Was out for a few drinks earlier this year chatting to this older guy. His topic of conversation was a Zombie Apocalypse...

He made the 'well intentioned' point that in the event of armageddon my muscles wouldn't get me very far, but his martial arts practice, sword and ninja outfit would put him in a good place.

Weeks later his missus (my masseuse) told me he got mugged on the way back that same night. She was picking bits of gravel out of his face for hours. Amusing.

a decent forza decline bench and db up to about 80kg
