G man, I'm moving back to the JR.

I'm currently commuting back and forth to the Royal Berks in Reading on a full time registrar rota which basically means no time for anything mid week. Let me give you a little taster: this evening I shall put my toddler to bed at 8. Tomorrow morning, in order to avoid rush hour traffic, I'll be out the door before he wakes. I'm working a 12 hour day which means I'll be lucky if I get away at 8:30 pm. I'll be home by 9:30 and won't get to see him. I'm working another 12hr day Tuesday which means the same again. Wednesday morning I'll be out the door before he wakes again but I'm working a normal day so home by 6:30 ish. Basically, what I'm saying is that even though we sleep under the same roof, I'm not going to see my 2 year old until Wednesday evening.

Moving back to the JR will, effectively, make my day 2.5hrs longer. My quality of life and time with my family will improve significantly.

Excellent news. You now realize just how important this is.

Harry Chapin didn't write "cats in the cradle" just so we should ignore it.

I am happy for you Doc.

Sounds awesome. I didn't realize you weren't working at the JR actually!

You must be at a similar career stage to my friend Andy. He's a paediatric surgeon - he's coming to the end of a two-year posting and is about to head elsewhere for a further four. I understand that after that four years, he can apply for consultant positions.

I feel his pain. However, I'm probably a few years ahead of him. As of August, I can apply for consultant jobs.

Boss.

Still planning on doing the Town & Gown? I think I'm going to aim for sub-52 minutes as well, so it would be great to have someone to run round with and keep me honest.

When is the town and gown mate?

Cycled to work this morning - 33 miles. Took me just over 2.5 hours. Got the train back this afternoon.

Just finished some squats in the shed (which nearly killed me due to fatigue from morning ride)

60x5
80x5
100x12
120x8
140x6
140x10
140x8

Time well spent Doc. I remember how liberating I found it at first. Now it's normal life, although the thought of driving makes my privvy member shrivel up. One day I'll need to get a car again. That will be a sad day indeed Unhappy

I totally get it mate. I'd love to be fit enough to do both legs of my commute but 66 miles is too much on top of a day at work. I'd probably also need a better bike. Anyway, this all changes in August when my commute becomes non-existent.

Read your comment re cleats in the cycling thread. I may get some fitted this weekend. MTB ones probably.

Have you done it before?

Did some bench today. Haven't done bench for a while and what little cycling I've done has actually shed some body weight. The scales say 2 kg. All this made piddly little weights feel heavy:

60x10x2sets
80x10x2sets
90x10 - difficult(ish)
95x5
100x5

I planned to do 10s all the way to 100kgs but 90x10 was unexpectedly heavy so scaled back the reps on 95 and 100kg.
