I have been thinking long and hard for many months about what way my life is going and how i want to live it, and i thought it only right to let you boys be some of the first people to know.
As of today i am officially retiring from strength sports and will no longer compete in powerlifting or strongman.
I love this sport it it has been in my heart for a very long time and my only one goal i suppose was to prove my ability as a drugfree athlete and to prove that it is possible to achieve a high standard of lifting on meat and potatoes alone . In my heart i believe i have achieved that level . The cost of adding another lb to the bar or another kg to the PB is just not reward enough for the expense of all the food the emotional stress and generally living like a big freak LOL .
I ONLY EVER WANTED TO BE THE BIGGEST HUMAN I COULD BE AND AS STRONG AS PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE . i feel i have done that , yes i may have added another 10kg /20kg to some lifts but for what ?
I only ever wanted the Bench record and i got that , now someone else can have it .
Walking around at 25 stone in a 'normal' world is tough and i think ive had me thrill of walking round as a freak ,breaking everything i sit on and not fitting in any decent clothes . I wanna run again and go on fairground rides with my babies and i want to order a small portion of food and sit on a plastic toilet seat without panicking. Eek
I think i owe it to my family to give them the best of me whilst im still a young Dad .
The one dream i have again is to fight again and i cant do that at this weight so i have set a challenge to myself to get down to 18stone as quickly and healthily as possible and to get fight ready once again , i know its going to be hard and a real battle but once i set myself a goal then that is that. I have had my first session back on the heavy bag today and was blowing out my arse but it felt great to have my lungs burning again i will still be training but obviously i have completely changed my routine and based it on conditioning and reps. I also have my own nutritionist who is sorting me a diet plan as we speak .

So just a quick one to say i have loved this sport and everyone in it bar a few c**ts Wink I will still be on the sight but wont be logging my training anymore but i will pop in momenteraly and let you see how im doing. Thanks Sugden for all your support and encouragement in making me the best that i could be in my sport , now its my turn to see what i can do in this new chapter in my life ,
Peace out, love y'all
Jay 'URSUS" Pateman

No shoutout? Dead to me.

Sounds like a sound decision, and lets face it, boxing is the king of sports!

You will lose musclechubbs fans though!

Big shock to me this mate!

Has something provoked this decision earlier than planned? Your recent posts had me thinking you would go on a few more year.

You are a British strength Legend. Good luck in your future endeavours.

Really good luck to you mate; it's just fun and games lifting weights. Spending time with your kids, running around like a mad man with them are things you'll never get to do again.

Just don't disappear from this site. You've always been generous with your time - ans it'll be really interesting to see your transformation to a sleeker unit; and how you go about it.

Sad to hear you are leaving the sport but like you say, there is more to life than just lifting, especially if it's having such a negative impact on other areas of your life. All the best for your new goals.

Jay, you have been inspirational. Thank you for the videos and advice you've given on here.

I hope you reconsider not logging on here, it would be fascinating seeing your transformation from strength athlete to fighter.

You're clearly a very focused individual, I'm sure you'll be a big success on your chosen path.

Wow! Big decision Jay, and probably the right one. Most of us go into the gym for health and wellbeing reasons, end up getting hooked on strength gains, and forgot why we started in the first place. I've only taken 12 Kg off and I feel much, much better for it. I'm 5 Kg - 7.5 Kg weaker, but if you offered me the extra bodyweight back to get the extra strength back I wouldn't take it. Good luck my friend - and you could still be an awesome 120 bencher of course Wink.
