There's been a couple of Vanessa's training over here but if you mean who I think you do, then no she's not been here for a bit.

Remembered her surname now - Slack Vee Slack. Lovely girl, good trainer, but she had a really deep voice. We used to call her Van the man. Not to her face though because she was dead hard. My other favourite person there is Jason Young. Had some great laughs with him. If he's still lifting you could learn a lot from watching him train. Technically perfect and a little bit fast.

Lol. Vee doesn't train there now no, she was up in sheffield for a little bit I think, but hasn't been at Atlas for a while now. I know Jason well, funny bloke and bloody quick isn't he?. Also a complete pervert.

Really selling Atlas well. We have a rock solid she-man a technically perfect pervert and dangerous Dave Sawyer. What more could you want.

What are some of your proudest PBs Andy?

Hard to say. Nowadays they don't mean that much a lot of the time.
Hmmm.
135 C&J at 67.5 as a schoolboy stands out. First time I jerked double bwt. Not sure if anyone else from our division did the x2 bwt as a schoolkid since, but I was the first.
The 182 was a personal goal for both myself and Alan. That was a great night. Over the following 18 months after doing it I had 15 attempts at 185 or more before having to admit that I wasn't going forward any more. That was nearly 4 1/2 years ago. Time flies.

mate, what you describe is what most weightlifters from the 80's aspired to be. Wink

Dave was great when he was lifting. Built like a brick s**thouse but terrified of missing a lift in case Hancock slapped him around (& rightly so).

I'm assuming you've heard Hancock stories?Wink

Ah I see. This explains a lot then mate! Dave "traps" Sawyer still is, even though I can't remember the last time I saw him touch a loaded bar. He has that weird farmer strength. Every now and then you see him do something absolutely ridiculous that boggles the mind. I swear a couple of weeks ago I saw him carry a fridge or radiator or something on his own (on his back) after 2 full-grown men struggled (and I mean struggled) to get the thing in the gym.

I have heard many a Hancock story. I am not sure if I am happy or sad that I was not training there when he was around. Cyril and Dave have some bloody tales to tell. Sounds like a complete freak athlete n'all: 180kg bench at 14???? Has the Commonwealth press record according to Cyril.

I met him a couple of times when I was a kid and I'm still scared. I think the first time I was a 60 odd Kg 16 YO. He shook my hand for lifting well, and I swear his hand engulfed up to my elbow. He was a monster.
