Your hear an awful lot of negative press about the long term effects and deaths related to PED's however it seems to acknowledged that it's the stimulants that actually push people over the edge.

Now I have never used and therefore not wanting to discuss more hardcore stimulants Clen, T3, Ephedrine etc.

I do however use caffeine, in raw form nearly every workout. Sometimes more than others. It doesn't give me bad crashes or a racing heart and I see no issues with using it. Kiefers book on carb loading suggests an enormous caffeine intake, surely wouldn't advocate something that could harm you?

Is there any research to suggest that long term use of CNS stimulants can cause damage/shorten ones lifespan like some bro-science folklore daily mail readers would occasionally have you believe?

Sadly there is a 100% death rate, in the long term, for people consuming either caffeine or preworkouts. Same goes for ibuprofen. Best stay away.

This is completely true. 100% of people who were known to have used either caffeine and ibuprofen died in the long term. Dangerous stuff!

I've wondered this. I have about 10 strong cups of coffee a day.

I hope it wasn't the caffeine that killed her.

As someone who drinks a lot of caffeine (shift work for over 20 years will do that !) - the one thing I took from the BBC article : I can drink about 500mg of caffeine a day and still be in the "safe" zone
Further reading suggests that 5-6 grams (5000-6000mg) might be the upper limit (a can of monster has about 150mg)
There was a 16 year old who had caffeine pills - the equivalent of 25-33 cans of monster and he survived

Everyone at work expects me to die when I have two or three cans on a night shift

I think statistically and up to your 40's Suicide is the biggest killer in men, with RTA being the biggest to mid 20's. After that it's a toss up between cancer and heart/ lung deseases, but in all honesty by this time you've got more to worry about than death. Important things. Things that matter.

If longevity is what you're after, then a BMI of around 25 is where it's at. If it's not so important have a coffee and a sticky bun, then smoke a tab. makes hang overs enjoyable too Wink
