Member 1419, 2281 posts SQ 175, BP 105, DL 240520.0 kgs @ 82kgs UnEq | Just to add Ron didn't wear a bench shirt and have won the ipf worlds 5 or 6 times. The totals aren't comparable, but relative to the standards of their eras, Ron's totals were more impressive IMO - they were WR and IPF winning totals.

Precisely, one has gear on the outside, one has it on the inside. That cancels out in my book

Although you guys are old and s**t so maybe you can tell us some good anecdotes of the culture of 70s and 80s BWLA.

As for the Ron Collins 'debate'...I think everyones points just prove how tough it is to compare people across eras. Same goes for people in all sports. All that is for certain is that Collins was an awesome lifer and Palmer is an awesome lifter. As for that matter is Tom but since he is becoming a big fat 93kg lifter he is out of this debate now

Let's just say that if a man is very drunk, you don't need to start taking blood and urine to know that he is very drunk. You do need them to prove that he is drunk, but not to know it. Failure to take said samples does not mean that he was sober but it does mean that he cannot be prosecuted for drunkeness. I have tremendous respect for the old time lifters as I do for the current crop. I was merely pointing out that some comparisons MAY not be as unfair as they seem. I will now cease to ambush Tom's log any longer.

Unless the "symptoms" of "drunkenness" you are referring to are gynecomastia or shrunken testicles rather then amazing strength? This is my last post on this topic too, so lets agree to disagree...

Mike Bridges IPF world record (pre modern kit) at 82.5kg was 952.5kg - it would seem perfectly reasonable that 855kg is obtainable drug free, without modern lifting kit by a similarly talented lifter.
