That's pretty much the format. I either build up into a big single, or a big set of 3-5 reps. Either way, it's usually only one intense set, so my 'proper' volume is quite low, I do a lot of really low intensity reps where I aim to be fast and nail the technique (my 'warm ups') and this lets me do the 3 lifts twice a week (sometimes more).

Impressive lifting.

What are your goals for the year - do you hope to lift in the European and World Juniors this summer (and Worlds this autumn) or will you be returning to sprinting for the summer?

Thanks!

I don't really know the qualifying criteria for any of those competitions, and I don't know what I'll be up agains at the British Juniors. I do plan on sprinting this summer, but I am entertaining ideas of doing both if the opportunity is there. It would be a shame to miss a world championships, but it will be difficult for me to prioritise one sport over the other.

I'd be extremley shocked if you don't win the British Juniors with numbers like that mate.

You would have got second at the British SENIORS last year with those lifts.

Click on the following link and you can check out past results .... www.ynepf.org.uk/british/bplresults.htm

(And this link for last years ... www.gbpf.org.uk/Competitions/Competition.aspx?calledFrom=re... ).

The IPF World Juniors is at the end of August in the Czech republic - I'm sure winning the British Juniors with a 700kg plus total will almost certainly get you picked. At IPF worlds there are medals for each lift as well as total - last year the Russian winner on deadlift at 82.5kg pulled 300kg.(he totalled 862.5kg!).

Last year the qualifying criteria for the Senior team at 82.5kg was 740kg.

If it's at the end of august then it's likely to be well out of the way of any important track meets (unless I get picked for worlds in that, but i doubt it...) so that's promising. Looking at past results from British Juniors it's looking good for me, but you never know when some freak will come along and go 200/100/450 or something...

Hi Tom,

I'm a fairly recent member of this site, and thought it was about time i stuck my tuppence worth in from time to time,
have read your log with interest, not sure if anyone has ever mentioned before in your track and field circles......? but you would be a perfect candidate for bobsledding.......requirement for both power and speed are huge. I was lucky enough to compete for 4 yrs and found it a great X-over sport for both my sprinting and lifting, both complementing each other without detracting from each other.......
Barring injury (running flat out on ice with ice spikes with a recurring stressfracture not recommended)and the ability to load into the sled at full speed.... i would have been surprised taking into account your current numbers on the track and in the gym if you wouldnt have made the British team for the coming olympics in Vancouver had you been around at the start of the season.....
trained with quite a few over the years who crossed over from track and field to bob with great success, Ally Condon has had a good couple of yrs and should be vancouver bound.......!?

Food for thought for the future.........
