5x 140 was a really conservative start giving me plenty room to improve, and 5x200 was a quite conservative finish. I believe this worked by me never really pushing it too hard. 5x200kg straight leg is probably worth around 240-250 x5 conventional for me, which is well on track for 280kg if you ask me! the next 20kg was so easy to find because I hadn't done any conventional deadlift in so long, just solidifying my technique and getting the most out of the more efficient body angles found me the extra weight really quickly!
btw, my friend took his dl from 140kg to 200kg at the same time as me doing the same thing

That's just ridiculous (in a good way).
No idea how 200x5 straight leg equates to 250x5 for you, but seems to be getting results, good on you pal.

my 100m time of 10.53 was impressive when I did it at 18 years old. my 60m time of 6.73 last year is a lot better, but I get the feeling I might be better in powerlifting. for a hope of a place on the gb sprint team I'm going to have to run 10.1x 100m, and that's quite a big difference. I think I have more chance of an international spot in powerlifting. but we'll see what summer brings for sprinting

ah. more high board press then! what am I doing wrong if when using weights that I can handle raw, it flies over my face and for some reason I'm not strong enough to do anything about it? I'm talking like 140kg, I should be getting a couple reps raw with that! is it anything to do with me having to pull really hard to get a touch? I've heard bad things happen when you have to start pulling

cheers! it probably ndicates that my hamstrings are still weak compared with lower back, which is why I've been getting such good results from sldl

I'm going to give your "deadlift template" a bash mate, going to start it at 110kg's. Just out of intrest, do you just pick the first rep up like a regular deadlift? I ask this as I think I'd be setting myself up for a mischief If I pulled stiff leg from the floor (I'd usually stop 3/4" from the floor on each rep with stiff legs, or my back would round).

I'm going to admit that I let my upper back round a lot. I'd hate to suggest you do this and hear about you getting injured though. you should definitely try to keep your lower back arched or straight though, snd if you can't then you either need more hamstring flexibilty or longer arms! I usually started with horrible flexibilty warming up with the bar then increased range of motion a bit each rep then when j was warmed up for the heavy set I'd be fine off the floor for each rep.

keep your forearms vertical to the floor. Concentrate on that and keeping your shoulder blades pinched together. Use more weight than your 1rpm, if you crnt touch, stick a bit more on. Once the shirt breaks in you'll be able to touch with weights you can safely handle

Thanks for the kind words!
Put possibly a bit too bluntly, because I want a challenge. National records are a bit of a hollow victory if they're considerably lower than national records in a different fed. I won't rule it out though, it would be nice to have records across all feds! But my prime target is to beat 310 as a junior 82.5 and if I don't manage that, a BDFPA record will provide little consolation. Hopefully this doesn't offend anyone lifting under BDFPA, I'm just not the type of person that would switch feds because things are 'too hard'.

The 82.5kg BDFPA record may well be higher come 21st Feb Wink Would be good to have it higher then the GBPF considering people always dismiss the BDFPA lol. Good luck with training Happy

I'd just like to say first off it's not bdfpa that I have a problem with, my problem is how divided the sport was. it seems ridiculous that there is more than one national record does it not? I simply picked the higher of the 2 as my target. should the bdfpa record become 310 or higher I'll have a new target. I presume you're talking about yourself btw, are you u23? just because if you're senior, the gbpf record is 355kg. best of luck in February, looks like you'll smash the record!

cheers kev, I saw you coaching, looks like you know what you're doing, maybe you can sort my jerk out sometime, I have an interest in the Olympic lifts too, especially when I'm sprinting, just s**t at getting anything overhead!

Less than stellar squatting today, was still sore from Friday

Box Squats unequipped

bar x 5
75kg x 5
115kg x 3
155kg x 3

no box, fully equipped

200kg x 2
225kg x 1 - bit harder than shouldve been
245kg x F - think I tried to sink it a bit too low lost my balance and that was that

Deadlift

75kg x 3
115kg x 3
155kg x 2

nothing special, wasn't meant to be

Bench Press

bar x 5
65kg x 3
105kg x 3

shirt on

105kg - miles away
125kg - bit closer
145kg x 1 - touched with Jim pushing it down lol
145kg x 1 - touched all by myself, flew up
145kg x 1 - same again
145kg x 1 - same again

so finally a successful shirted bench! Will sleep much easier tonight
