WEST MIDS DEVELOPMENT POWERLIFTING COMP!

Woke up feeling pretty good, old injury twinging a tad but nothing the old roller couldn't sort.

Matt and the gang had set up a great area for the comp and i went to get weighed in around 10. My saturday carb up had gone well, saturday morning i was sat around 98.5kg, i weighed in at 102.2kg Happy

Our flight started lifting around 2pm i think and squat warm ups felt ok up to a easy single of 140kg. I was called up for my opener of 160 which the previous week i had had for 4 sets of 5 and a set of 6 and completely messed it up, sat straight down, no sit back, no tightness and as a result monged it up but 3 whites so all on course. I called for 175kg and hit better form and it went up ok but not as fast as i would have liked, again though 3 whites Happy Final attempt i called for 185kg for an all time raw pb, bar felt light on pick up dropped into the hole, felt ok, sprung back up half way but it stalled and i fought with it for ages but couldn't lock it, tbh i was pretty disappointed with this but squats have come on massively lately and considering how injured i was i can't complain, this isn't far away, more grunt work and this and more will go. 175kg is still a 5kg comp pb and only 7.5kg under my best ever so guess its not too shabby Happy

Head cleared we moved to the warm ups for bench. 60kg x 5, 80kg x 5, 100kg x 2, 120kg x 1 all felt snappy and felt ready to go. 135kg was my opener and it went up ok with a nice pause but the whole set up on the bench felt massively alien and nothing like i have been used to but no time to moan. Called for 140kg 2nd attempt and it went ok if a tad slow considering i've doubled this 3x in a row before but again 3 whites so ok, decided there was no chance of equalling or bettering my PB on bench on this set up today though! Called for 145kg final attempt but couldn't get it, most annoying seeing as i have got this fatigued in the gym but thats comps for you i guess so ended with 140kg (still a 10kg comp PB but 10kg under my actual pb).

Right on to my best and favourite lift - deadlifts. Warmed up on a horrifically bent bar, 180kg felt awful, 220kg felt awful, 240kg felt sweet and moved really fast - game on! Headed out for my 255kg opener - smoker, felt really easy, easy triple or more there so called for 265kg second attempt. This was a smoker too and the fastest i have ever pulled this weight, smiling as i walked off as i knew i had more there. At this point i was unsure where to go - 277.5kg for an all time pb? 275kg for a = pb that was strapped or 272.5kg to ensure i get a goal of a 600lb competition pull - decided this was the way to go! Waiting around for ages while the other lifters went, there were 2 of us up to attempt 272.5kg but the other lad was lifting in a dead suit and he was up first. Unluckily he failed his attempt and the pressure was on as i wanted this lift! As soon as i started to pull it i knew i had it, again the fastest i have ever pulled a 272.5kg dead and i locked it out for 3 whites and held it at the top, very pleased! Crowd was apparently very loud but i was in my own little bubble and heard nothing! This was the heaviest lift of the day, a nice way to end the meet.

Finished the meet with a 587.5kg total at 102.2kg, bit more work on squats and i will break 600kgs, a little disappointed i missed a 600kg comp total but had a great time and comp PB'd everything so i can't complain, especially seeing as its not long since i tore my hip, i learned a little more and had a great laugh. Had i been a member that total would have qualified me for the Brits too so i know with another years lifting i have it in me. For now its back to the gym and get lifting again and push this total higher, the next years going to be a long, tough road but i'm determined to get some huge increases and i think i can do it Happy

Cheers mate, I hadn't noticed that but looking back your right, squats very much still work in progress since my injury and relearning my whole form so I will take note of that, thanks mate Happy

Bloody good work mate and then you go and do another session today, you crazy mofo. Is it likely there will be another comp like this? You'll easily smash 600 next time, you were damn close this time. Where's the fail vids, you've got to post those so we can see how close or far you were.
