with this routine how many day do you train and how often will you hit the lower back as remember you'll have event training to think of as well for the uk scottish comp

It is a three day Russian routine Thing, concentrating on Squat, Bench, deadlift, standing press 2 days speed work on everything and 1 day working from 80% up to 100% over 5 weeks, so not that taxing in first few weeks only maybe last 2 weeks then you come back down again, like a wave, I do not know if it will work, but I will give it a shot, because I am going to heavy to often and never recovering, I am either going to increase strength or decrease strength, I have never trained like this, so I am s**tting it a wee bit, but will stick with it for the first 5 weeks and see how it goesConfused.
play it by ear and listen to your body but i think it will be hard but you should make some good goals from this routine

Good to see you here Stephen, it was great training with you and talking to you, you done superb in the comp, you got PB'S in everthying, and with more training you will get better and better, you have the ability for it no problemHappy.

The comp is F*CKED for me now, I ripped my right Calf today in training, so I physically can not do it, I was looking forward to it as well, just one of those things.

But saying that, if I where you I would do it, you got all PB'S in the U105KG's and I know you will get all PB's in this comp, I go for it, and get some good vids up of the comp, cause I cannae wait to see it.

Are you going to start a training journal here it would be great to seeHappy.

it will be great to see you again in the next comp I do, in probably a few months, and you can kick my ass againGrin.

Thanks Stevie, really enjoyed the comp even though I got destroyed I got pb's in five of the 6 events , I was no were near kicking your ass it was a draw for last. The top guys are in a different league though!Eek
That's pish about the calf, hope you heal quick and come back with a vengence. Really like the idea of doing the Dumfries comp in a few weeks but I probably need to stop smoking the crack pipe Roll-Eyes although you do get a T-shirt which could sway meGrin , I'll see how I get on with events this weekend. Wink
My training journal doesn't make for interesting reading all I do is squat, bench, deadlift and some strongman events every so often. Tongue

Stephen as Joni says put that Training Journal Up, because that is all that we do anywaysGrin.

And do the Dumfries comp, you will nail all PB's again, and get some nice Vids, if it were not for this Injury I would be doing any and every comp I could.

Stephen there is the Luss Games, where there is a Strongman Comp in it, I think it is on before the Dumfries Comp, you should give it a go, it looks Brilliant, I would have done it if it were not for Injury, I think there is a stone walk like a hussefelt stone, farmers, max deadlift, and stones, get in contact with big Andy and ask him.

I have completely Ripped my Calf Musle right off, the Doc does not know if it is the tendom, if it is I am f**ked for months, it is still f**kING sore, so very light training for me for the next few months, more speed work and will try and work up to my old max's in 8 weeks, it is really annoying, just wrapping it tight and popping the pain killersAngry.

Saturday's Training:

Standing Strict Press:

3 Sets 5 Reps 60/80/100KG, could have hit 120KG then but would not chance it with this injury.

Pulldowns:

3 Sets 8 Reps very light weight.

Barbell Curls:

3 Sets 6 Reps 40KG, 20 Seconds between sets:

Stones to 48 Inch:

10 Reps at the 80KG stone, with wee rest in between reps, calf was very sore.

Farmers Holds:

3 Sets 20 Seconds 70KG, with a long wrist wrap wrapped around each farmer so as to make it very thick to hold.

Holds From Chinning Bar:

3 Sets 35/30/25 Seconds, again with wrist wrap wrapped around bar so as it is thick, and it was bloody hard.

Todays Session:

Speed Olympic Squats:

3 Sets 3 Reps 120KG.

Speed Bench Press:

5 Sets 4 Reps 120KG.

Speed Deadlifts:

5 Sets 1 Rep 70/120/160/190/220KG.

Speed Standing Strict Press:

5 Sets 4 Reps 80KG.

Again the Squats and the deadlift where very hard, because of Injury, I must be down about 30-40KG on both exercises the nowConfused.

Bodyweight 97KG.

What Joni said. Heal up soon. Calf is such an awkward injury, because you use it every time you take a step.

Still training with decent poundages there Stevie, just watch you don't make the injury worse. It's not the Dumfries novice comp in aug that I'm thinking of doing, it's the uk's scottish next sat. I've done 2 novice comps and the u105s now even though I never placed that well in any of them, I think I've left myself nowhere to go but an open comp(too get royally f**ked Tongue ). Had a quick events session down in dumfries yesterday and everything was dam heavy!Eek and will have ago with yoke and maybe stones after the gym tonight. I like the idea of doing it but in another way I know it's way too heavy for me and the cream of scottish strongmen will be there and I'm nowhere near there level.Confused .
The past strongman comps I've done I've just given myself some goals for each event and not worried how I placed but the only goals I can give myself for the comp next week is not to bomb!

Thanks Joni really enjoyed the u105's, the best comp I've done so far!Grin Cool

Thanks Thing, JC, Joni, Martin, Stephen, I appreciate it.

Martin, I am shocked that a stupid calf injury could affect me this much, you are right, you use the calf's for everything even stabilising in the bench and other stuff, it is a Bummer.

Stephen, I know it is the Big Boy's comp you are going to do, because I was going to do that one as well, before the injury, Stephen you have great static strength, so go for this comp, and I know you will do great, and get Vids, you should do the Luss games comp after this as well, I think I will do it, even with this Injury, but not push anything, just so as I get back into doing something, I wish you loads of luck in the compHappy.

Speed Squat:

3 sets 3 reps 120KG.

Speed Bench:

5 Sets 1 Rep 60/100/130/150/170KG, last rep went up in under 1/2 a second, hopefully this speed work will pay off into something big for me.

Speed Deadlift:

3 Sets 3 reps 160KG.

Speed Standing Press:

5 Sets 1 Rep 60/80/90/100/110KG, again this went up in 1/4 of a second, and held at top for 30 Seconds.

Contentintel cleans From Belt:

5 Sets 1 Rep 60/70/80/90/100KG, calf sore so chucked it.

Again just wrapped up me calf and trained.

Deadlift From Just Below Middle Of Shins Do With Straps:

6 Sets 1 rep 60/120/160/200/240/270KG and a PB at this Height, the bar was only about 3-4 Inches off the ground and it just flew upHappy.

Incline Bench About 55-60 Degrees:

6 Sets 1 Rep 60/100/140KG was going to chuck it here but the guy giving me a hand off said go a bit heavier, so 150/160/170KG easy, another PB at this height.

Standing Dumbell Curls:

3 Sets 10 reps 10/20/32.5KG.

Chin Bar Hangs:

1 Set of 60 Seconds, my forearms where burning after this, hopefully this will help my girly grip.

Was not even going to train today, but glad I did, it seems that this Secret Russian routine of Speed work and working up to a max every 5 weeks is paying off just a wee bitGrin.

Nice deadlift PB mate. Will you compete again this year?

Cheers JCHappy.

Yes I will compete again hopefully this year, I just have so many injury's right now, a calf Injury, and a Bicep Injury that stops me from going mixed grip in the deadlift, and from lifting stones without tacky, and I have no tacky so it is a catch 22, I can't do any stones over 100KG without it, but I do not know where to get good cheap tacky in the UK.

I was going to do Scottish UKSC Strongest man, and get another beating, but tore my calf, and there is the Luss games next week, where it is, stone walk for disatnce, max deadlift, and farmers, so basically everything I can not do because of Injury, but if Darren lets me do it, I will give it a go, but I know I will only be about 80%, so another beating again, but am I botheredTongue.

Todays Session more speed work.

Speed Olympic Squats:

5 Sets 1 Rep 60/100/130/150/170KG.

Speed Bench:

5 Sets 4 Reps 120KG.

Speed Deadlift 3 Sets 3 Reps 160KG.

Speed Power Clean and Press.

5 Sets 4 Reps 80KG.

All sets done with 1 minute rest between sets.

Bodyweight 97KG.
