Having been on 5/3/1 for almost a year I cant recommend it highly enough. One thing I would say is that when Wendler says 'pick your battles' he really means it. You dont need to set rep PR's every week and unless you start off with a very conservative 1RM, you wont be able to. If you top weight for the day is something light, then do as he does, just hit the reps and then go up depending on how you feel.

An examination of his log on elite is extremely worthwhile if you are interested in how often he works up. He basically runs a system by which each training cycle he ll work up to a max set heavy set (1-3) on an exercise.

Had to cut it a little short due to work starting at 430 and not being able to get a rack for a while at the start. Happy enough with the squats, all felt strong, conditioning let me down on the 140 or I couldve squeezed out a couple more.

I think there are some good numbers to come out of my squat in the nearish future, everything is feeling strong and very solid.

I injured my left shoulder/elbow a little squatting last week and its been troubling me slightly, a lot yesterday to the extent I was debating cutting my arm off. 130 would have been 2 x 2 but it was hurting so i sacked it off. Back is still sore from deadlifting so missing out on some back stuff is probably no bad thing anyway.

Good session. Zero pain anywhere squatting. I never used to believe any of this mobility/foam rolling bo***cks when people used to harp on about it, but im beyond converted. This is the best ive felt in years and in only 22.

Today was '5' day on 531, top set was meant to be 132.5 but I refuse to put a 1.25kg plate on a bar im intending to squat. I saw no point in doing something like 130 x 10-12 so I binned it at 5. Moved slower than it should have but to be expected. Had way more than a tripple at 150 and couldve repped 160 again. Next week's top set is 140 so I ll shoot for some reps with that I reckon. So good to be back squatting.
