Wednesday 9th January.

Weighed in at 116.2 kilos. Not as light as expected, I am looking to be under 116 on Friday.

Felt really weak tonight, probably due to the lack of food on this diet. So far today I have had 50gms porridge with water, 1 bannana, 1 Muckdonalds sausage and egg Muckmuffin meal with coffee and 1 cup of tea. Plus about 1/2 litre of water at the gym. Just off to have steamed fish and vegetables, then a couple of cups of green tea before bed. Plus I had a 6am start and have driven for 5 hours from Northampton to Warrington & Salford then back to Northampton.

Deadlifting in the new gym on my own. Benching in the cupboard with Kevin, Stuart and Gordon.

DeadLift
5 x 70
5 x 110
3 x 150
2 x 180
1 x 180
1 x 180
1 x 180
1 x 180
4 x 150
TOTAL CRAP...... All the 180's were meant to be 3 off and the last 150 was supposed to be 5 off. Somedays it just aint there. I think that 5 x 3 x 180 is currently beyond me so I will drop the reps down to 80% target at (168) 170 kilos for my session on Friday and then build up slowly.

Bench
10 x 40 Close Grip
10 x 40 Wide Grip
10 x 40
10 x 70
5 x 90
2 x 105 failed 3rd
2 x 105 failed 3rd
3 x 105
1 x 105 failed 2nd - absolute rubbish
2 x 105 failed 3rd
5 x 90 Close Grip
4 x 90 Close Grip failed 5th
5 x 90 Close Grip
10 x 70 Close Grip
10 x 70
This was another really bad session, everything just felt really heavy.

I am putting tonights and Mondays bad sessions down to two things:
1. I need to get used to the new surroundings and equipment at the gym.
2. The loss of nearly 5 kilos in weight in one week must be having some effect on me.

Really not looking forward to squatting on Friday.

Friday 11th Jan.

Weighed in at 115.40 kilos. Just call me slim.......

A good crowd in for a Friday, around 10 lifters, on top of which the college informed us that around 6 students have expressed an interest in taking up the sport and will be coming down next week.

We are starting to get used to the surroundings and equipment now plus the college appears very keen to develop the sport and are even talking about buying in specialist competition racks and weights and hosting major competitions in the future. Let's wait and see.

Squatting with Kevin and Sean, benching in the cupboard with Gordon, Dave and Little Pete.

Squat
5 x 70
5 x 110
3 x 140
2 x 155
2 x 155
2 x 155
3 x 140
5 x 110
Trained using the outside of a weight station on the solid floor which was much better, however I still used the gym's new "York" bars which are far to bendy and the rubber weights which are way to wide, the 15 kilos weights are 70mm thick and full diameter. Felt like a much better session than previously though.

Bench
10 x 40 Close Grip
10 x 40 Wide Grip
10 x 40
10 x 70
5 x 90
5 x 3 x 105
5 x 95 Close Grip
4 x 95 Close Grip failed on 5th
5 x 95
A much better session than the others this week and completed the 5x3 reps at 105 so I will start on the 107.5's on Monday.

It looks like Max the Russian is finally giving up on the UK, he has lived and worked here for over three years so can qualify as a Brit, he is the current British champion and was best lifter at last years Western Europe Championships, however he is frustrated that despite his efforts, BWLA still appear reluctant to talk to him. Now that he is getting serious about his Ukranian girlfriend he is talking about moving out to the Ukraine, getting married and trying to qualify for their national team, where they might take him more seriously.

Monday 14th January.

Two new guy's to the Farm in tonight, one is a student at the college (did not get his name) and the other was the Jeremy that we met at Yardley the other week, apparently he works in Northampton so we are the closest option.

Weighed in at 115.90 kilos, not bad considering I gave the diet up for the day on sunday and almost ate my own bodyweight in Salt & Vinegar Pringles, my mouth still feels like I've been sucking lemons for a week.

I am still following the % reps program I detailed before but have decided that 5x3 sets is a bit of overkill and will satisfy myself with 3x3 sets before I add 2.5 kilos.

Deadlifting on my own and Benching on my own in the cupboard.

DeadLift
5 x 70
5 x 110
3 x 150
3 x 170
2 x 170 lost grip on the 3rd
2 x 170 failed 3rd, lifted it but could not lock out
1 x 170 could not get 2nd off floor
2 x 170 could not get 3rd off floor
3 x 150
5 x 130
5 x 110
I think that this shows how optomistic I was being with the 180's. I'm not too dissapointed with this session as they were done fairly quickly with just 3 minutes between sets.

Bench
10 x 40 Close Grip
10 x 40 Wide Grip
10 x 40
10 x 70
5 x 90
3 x 100
3 x 107.5
3 x 107.5
3 x 107.5
4 x 100 Close Grip
8 x 90 Close Grip
10 x 70 Close Grip
Pleased with the 3x3 107.5's. Moving up to 110 on the bench on Wednesday.

HOT NEWS
The guy's that run the sports department at the college are very keen for us to hold competitions at some point in the future and we are considering applying to host the first ever (I think that it is the first ever) "English Championship" (well the Welsh, the Scots and the Irish have one). Watch this space.

Wednesday 16th Jan.

Weighed in at 115.4 kilos, not bad but still got 5 kilos to go.

I had what can only be described as a weak night. Everything felt really heavy and I felt s**te. Probably down to the fact that all I had eaten all day was 50grams of porridge made with 300ml of water and a peach.

Squatting on my own and benching with Naz and his mate.

Squat
5 x 70
5 x 110
3 x 140
2 x 155
2 x 155
2 x 155
4 x 140
5 x 110
The 2nd 155's were really tough and no way was there a 3rd squat in me. In fact this was identical to my session last Friday (with the exception of an extra 140, well I had to show an improvement somewhere).

Bench
10 x 40 Close Grip
10 x 40 Wide Grip
10 x 40
10 x 70
5 x 100
1 x 110 failed on 2nd
2 x 110 never attempted 3rd
1 x 110 failed on 2nd
5 x 90 Close Grip
5 x 90 Close Grip
4 x 90 Close Grip. Failed 5th lift
A poor session, it just did not feel right.

On a Wednesday night we share the building with a bunch of ju-jitsu types who use the main hall, all wearing nice black suits with yellow writing on the back and performing some kind of far eastern type line dancing. Before they started they complained to "The College Management" about our loud music????????? Apparently it is putting them off their counting practice. At least we think that is what they are doing, all we can hear is them shouting 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc, etc. PONCY t**tS, why don't they come and talk to us if our music bothers them? I think that I'll introduce myself to them next week.

I'd better buy myself a new leotard then.
Kevin claims that he is going to enter this comp at 90 kilos and if all goes well have a pop at Dave Carters 287.5 U/E dead lift record. Should be interesting.

Friday 18th Jan.

Weighed in at 115.55 kilos. 23 days to my competition and still need to lose around 5 kilos - must try harder or it will be the 125's again.

Another good crowd in tonight, it's good to see everybody begining to train a little more serious, probably because we all have just a 2 hour slot in which to work, whereas at the old place we could just come and go as we pleased.

Benching with Pete the chair and deadlifting with just about everybody.

Bench
10 x 40 Close Grip
10 x 40 Wide Grip
10 x 40
10 x 70
5 x 100
2 x 110
2 x 110
1 x 110 failed 2nd
4 x 100 failed 5th
5 x 100
4 x 100 failed 5th
3 x 5 x 90 Close Grip
Right shoulder very painfull tonight it feels like something needs to click and was the major cause of all the failures. Otherwise not a bad session.

DeadLift
5 x 70
5 x 120
3 x 150
3 x 170
3 x 172.5
3 x 175
5 x 150
5 x 130
Good session tonight, I felt much more aggresive and determined than in recent sessions. I have also tightened my lever belt by one hole and that has seemed to help, losing weight had made it a little slack.

Fairly pleased with tonight, I will have one more week of reps then a week and a half of competition lift practice before the 10th Feb. There should be a good crowd from the farm competing, probably Kevin, Gordon, Dave, Ashley, Shane and myself.

I thought some of you olly lifters might like to see this vid I took of Max tonight, he was training CnJ and I watched him do 5 x 120, 4 x 130 and 3 x 140. The video is of his last 140. Remember his body weight is under 70 kilos.

Monday 21st Jan

Another crap night at the gym. Weighed in at 115.45 kilos. Despite not eating and upping the CV work I am not losing weight, the right shoulder is still bad, I felt really tired and everything felt heavy.

Squatting with Kevin, Sean, Shane and Stewart.
Squat
5 x 70
5 x 110
3 x 140
2 x 155
2 x 157.5
1 x 160 did not attempt the 2nd
1 x 160 did not attempt the 2nd
3 x 140 failed 4th
Crap, the 160's were so tough that it would have been so easy to just let the spotters take it, absolutely no chance of a second.

Started benching in the main gym with Stewart, Sean, Shane and Kevin but gave up and went into the cupboard halfway through.
10 x 40 Close Grip
10 x 60
5 x 80
3 x 100
Gave up at this point, my arse falls through the split in the bench and my feet do not sit flat on the floor properly. I have no idea why the rest of the lads persist with it. Continued on my own in the cupboard. They all complain about it but just carry on.
10 x 70
5 x 90
4 x 100
5 x 80 Close Grip
Really pissed off with this session, did not even attempt a 110.

Went back into the main gym and did loads of front squats, GM's and cleans.
Really pissed off with lifting at the moment and I am so close to just packing it all in. Not feeling good about Feb 10th at the moment.

Max went to some kind of "school for lifters" in Russia, he is the reigning British Champion, he has competed for the UK and was "best lifter" at last years "Western Europe" championships. However he is a bit pissed of with a lack of support from BWLA and this year has refused to join up.
