I tend to do both. If i am doing a set of 5 then the first 2 or 3 will probably be touch and go and the last ones will be arse on the bench, pause, lift. Singles or doubles are generally paused.

I don't find the pausing and standing up a problem, it's the walking it back into the rack which worries me.

Well he got 265/162.5/290. I was not to far out was I? Except he won by 32.5 kilos.

Friday 5th.
Nobody in with the cupboard keys, so no weigh in tonight.
A bad night at the gym. I felt really tired and lethargic tonight. That along with my phone going off every 5 minutes meant that I did not really get into tonights session. The bloody phone does not ring all day, I get to the gym at 4 and then receive 12 phone calls in 45 minutes. Benching with Mark, Larry and Pete the chair. Deadlifting on my own.

Bench
3 x 10 x 35 close / wide / normal
10 x 60
5 x 85
3 x 105
5 x 2 x 110
4 x 100 close grip
5 x 90 close grip
8 x 80 close grip
It all felt heavy tonight, 2 x 110 was not really pushing me so on the 3rd set I went for a 3rd rep. Mistake, I brought it down too far down my chest and had to really fight it before losing it about 4" up. I also felt something go in my left shoulder whilst fighting it. Bugger.

DeadLift

3 x 1 x 210 Failed all three
1 x 200 Failed miserably

Really dissapointed with this. The 210 would have been a PB however the first attempt only came about 6" off the floor, the second only 3" and the third did not get off the floor. The 200 did not get off the floor either.

Sometimes I'm just crap.

Congratulations to Kevin ,massive deadlift must have got a bar he liked for once!

I think your deadlifting problems are just a confidence thing you know the strength is there from your squatting ,have you thought about trying just deadlifting next week and dropping the bench first so you go in fresh without any fatigue,i reckon you just need
a couple of good sessions to get your confidence back!

Ed, You are probably right, the confidence on my deadlift is a bit shot at present and i will make a point of doing my DL's before my benching in the next few weeks.

Monday 8th October.
A good crowd in at the gym tonight, around 10 or 11 lifters but no Kevin he's working away this week and no Pete the chair, he's got a splinter in his thumb and it was hurting, so he just watched and gave benching advice to anyone that would listen.

Weighed in at 117.5 kilos, but seeing as I have been suffering all day from some dodgy prawns that I ate last night this is probably not a true reflection.

Benching with Little Pete, Stuart, Larry and Gordon. Squatting with Stuart.

Pleased with how easy the 120 went up but dissapointed with the 112.5's, they should have all been doubles. The first lift was going up easy and the second lift was coming down easy but no way could I get it off my chest.

Happy with this, they were all really good deep squats. However I really did not feel like doing this session tonight and could easily have gone home after the 130's but pleased that I persisted.

I made the mistake of clearing out the garage on Saturday (before the rugby), consequently my darling wife thought it would be a good idea for me (just me) to do car boot sale yesterday, I was standing up for around 8 hours!!!! I normally spend my days either sitting at a desk, behind the wheel or in front of the tele / computer. Today my legs feel like I ran a marathon yesterday, which probably expalins why I did not fancy the squatting tonight.

Chicken curry tonight. Just heard the microwave ping. It must be ready.
However, just got back from Netto and filled the freezer with Steak Pies at £1.29 each. Bargain.

hoping to come up to the farm in 2 weeks time so you can all teach me how to squat!

My last session before I go on holiday will be Wednesday 24th after that I will not be back in a gym until Monday 12th Novemeber, unless I can find a gym while I am away. That said, Kevin, Mark and Little Pete are usually in attendance. I'm sure Kevin and Pete could give you some advice on squatting (dont ask Mark).

I reckon us southerners should get together and visit Manchester at some point for a big joint training session, I'm sure a few of the lads from the Farm would be up for it. Anybody else fancy a jolly to the wild north?

This might not look like much but the 3rd press on the last couple of 105 sets were real tough. Arms are feeling really tight as I write.

Hmmm, not sure if this was better or worse than I expected. The 3 x 1 x 180 was supposed to be 1 x 3 x 180 but I had to stand up and take a breather between each lift. The 185 was going to be a 190 but I am pleased that I cut it back to 185, it was a real grinder and a 190 would not have come up. The backs of my legs have been painfull since Mondays squats and tonights deadlifting has not made them any better. I am currently walking like a very sore John Wayne. The deadlift used to be my favourite, at the moment I dread doing it.

We still have not found a new home for the Farm gym. 72 days to go until we are kicked out.

What!!!! At the Farm we have an average age of about 55. The boys at Addlington are about half that. Mind you, if that means they have to lift twice as much we could be on.
