Friday 7th August.

Easing my way back in slowly, weighed in at 114.75 kilos, probably down to the double bacon and egg Muckmuffin breakfast and the litre of innocent smoothie with an entire malt loaf for lunch.

Deadlifting with the Lurkio, or at least until he t**tted his leg, then benching with Lurkio, Big Dave, Petit Pierre and the Garden (6 sets of 30 @ 60K) Bencher.

Deadlift.
5 x 70
5 x 90
5 x 110
3 x 140
3 x 160
2 x 180
2 x 190
2 x 180
3 x 170
5 x 160
Satisfied with this, nothing difficult although I did feel a twinge in my right knee whilst warming up it had gone by the time the 180's came around.

Bench.
Friday night is big singles night, starting at 115 and not knowing what to expect.
10 x 40
10 x 60
8 x 80
5 x 100
2 x 110 2nd felt tough.
1 x 115 easy.
1 x 117.5 easy.
1 x 120 suprisingly comfortable.
1 x 122.5 Failed, I set it up wrong and only succeeded in pushing myself along the bench.
1 x 122.5 tucked my legs back more and pressed it much better.
3 x 110
2 x 5 x 100 Close Grip.
Satisfied with this, probably could have nailed a 125 but I'll keep it for next week.

I was officially inducted into the poncy council gym last night, so many boys in white t-shirts and gloves...............................

Monday 10th August.

Weighed in at 114.9 kilos, whoops, I know that I have decided to do the "All England" for fun but thats no reason to let the eating get out of hand!

Squat.
5 x 70
5 x 90
5 x 110
3 x 132.5
2 x 145
2 x 155
1 x 162.5
1 x 170
2 x 155
5 x 132.5
These were full, deep squats but the session was far harder than I was expecting, I really had to grit the teeth and grind the 170 out. Disapointingly difficult.

Bench.
10 x 40
10 x 60
8 x 80
6 x 90
5 x 102.5
3 x 110
2 x 2 x 115
3 x 110 Failed, only managed 2.
5 x 102.5 Failed, only managed 3.
Pleased with the 115's but disapointed with the the last couple of sets.

All in all a poor training session tonight, I feel fat, lethargic and unfit.

Wednesday 12th April.

Weighed in at 114.0 Kilos, still too heavy but at least I'm going in the right direction now. Went to the poncy gym and did 40 mins on the running machine followed by a 1/4 mile swim last night. Went back and did 10 mins on the cross trainer and 10 mins on a bike this morning which does not sound like much but I kept the heart rate up at about 135/140. I'll probably not make it down to the 110's (hopefully I'll be close) by the "All England" but I'm hoping to be around 107 by the time the British Un-Equipped happens.

Deadlifts with Banker Steve and benching with the Lurkio (back from putting his feet up for a few days), Big Dave, Petit Pierre, Kevin and the Garden Bencher.

Deadlift.
5 x 70
5 x 90
5 x 110
3 x 140
3 x 160
2 x 180
2 x 200
3 x 175
5 x 165
Satisfied rather than pleased with this session. The last lifts on the last 3 sets were bloody tough.

Bench.
10 x 40
10 x 60
10 x 80
5 x 5 x 100
3 x 5 x 90 Close Grip
Bog standard light reps session. Heavy singles on Friday.

Ended the evening with long conversations about the arrangements for next weekends competition. Who's making the tea's, medal budgets, the increased cost of the freebie t-shirts, how many spotters we have, etc, etc, etc, you don't need all the gory details. Grin Grin Grin

I'll be driving down and lifting on the Saturday, then stopping over to watch the lifting on Sunday. There will be a number of us down from the Farm, including Kevin, Malc, Steve the Banker and Big Dave. We have not made any travel arrangements yet though. It could be a proper jolly boys outing!

I must admit I had concerns about a 4 hour drive in the morning then lifting in the afternoon but it sounds like the norm.

Friday 14th August.

Weighed in at 112.9 Kilos, much better, perhaps all the miles on the bike and running machine at the poncy gym are helping.

Squat.
5 x 70
5 x 90
5 x 110
3 x 130
3 x 145
2 x 160
1 x 175
2 x 160
5 x 135
Satisfied with this, it was certainly better than on Monday but the 175 was a grinder and about really was today's limit.

Bench
10 x 40
10 x 60
6 x 80
4 x 100
2 x 110
1 x 115
1 x 120
1 x 125 Locked it out but it took a touch from Malc to get it moving after it stalled about half way up.
1 x 125 Much better.
1 x 127.5 Failed, stalled at about 6 inches of my chest.
3 x 110
3 x 5 x 100 Close Grip.
Not sure about this, my left shoulder was really giving me some pain tonight which is quite worrying, however i'm pleased the weights are creeping up again.

Just to re-iterate, I'm doing the All England next weekend for fun with my current goal being the British Un-Equipped in October. Consequently I will be training as usual on Monday and Wednesday next week, on the Friday evening we will be setting up the hall for the weekends lifting. With that in mind I'm hoping for something like a 500 total next weekend and a 530 total at the British.

Monday 17th August. Not a good day!

On Saturday I weighed 111.5K and felt good! After a long cardio session at the gym on Sunday then a barbie at Kev's Sunday afternoon (I only drank water), I weighed in tonight at 115.5K WTF! On top of this I felt really tired and lethargic.

Deadlift.
5 x 70
5 x 90
5 x 110
3 x 150
2 x 180 No problems to this point.
1 x 200 Failed, only came about six inches off the floor.
1 x 200 Failed, did not move.
3 x 1 x 170 Every one hurt.
2 x 170 Felt a little better.
Rubbish. No energy at all, the legs feel like jelly.

Bench.
10 x 40
10 x 60
8 x 80
5 x 90
Stopped here and went home. Went to bed and slept for 12 hours.

Something was just not right on Monday, not sure what is happening with the weight, it must be some sort of fluid retention. Felt a little better yesterday but still slept for 10 hours last night (I normally only sleep 6 hours a night). I think that my blood sugar levels (I'm diabetic) are also not right at the moment, hopefully it will settle before the competition at the weekend.

Wednesday 19th.

Four days to the All England and I weighed in tonight at 113.4K before training and 113.0K after training (and I drank a litre of water whilst training), so we are coming back down towards that magic 110.

Last session tonight before Sunday and after Mondays disaster I decided to hit all three lifts fast and up to my expected openers.

Squat.
5 x 70
5 x 90
5 x 110
3 x 130
1 x 140
1 x 150
1 x 160
5 x 120
No problems, all good and deep, could have gone a little higher but I'll keep it for the weekend.

Bench.
10 x 40
8 x 60
5 x 80
3 x 100
1 x 110 Full pause under command.
1 x 115 Full pause under command.
5 x 100 Close Grip.

Deadlift.
5 x 70
5 x 90
5 x 110
3 x 130
3 x 150
1 x 170
1 x 190
3 x 140
No problems, all felt easy with the exception of the 190 which was dissapointingly hard.

Entire session completed in around 60 minutes. Then went to the poncy gym for 30 minutes on the bike and 20 minutes on the running machine.

Back to the poncy gym last night. 30 minutes onthe exercise bike and 20 minutes on the running machine. I've never worked so hard at losing weight.

Spent 4 hours at the gym tonight setting everything up for tomorrows competition. Now all we need is for Bryn to arrive with a scoreboard and Ian K to get the squat rack in situ and were off.

Weighed in at the Farm tonight at 110.05 kilos. So Close....But so hungry.
