Been meaning to have a go at power snatches for AGES, and finally got round to it!

really impressive work on an axle mate. been trying power cleans recently and really struggling for grip. then i saw you do chin ups on an axel? f**king brilliant idea, have you found these to be helping?

First time I've done them! I sometimes do weighted hangs from axle. I'm still fairly new to axle work - but I'm hoping for a noticeable improvement in grip strength. My grip is OK, nothing special. A strong grip is a valuable asset in strongman.

Trained at "The Farm" with WILLSAN and jt today. It was a cardio-based session, so I knew I'd be crap!


LOADING - 3 100Kg(?) "bags" carried and then put over a yoke

1st run - only managed 2, but wasn't shouldering them. KNACKERED afterwards!!

2nd run - used shouldering technique and got all 3 over (with a small cheat on the last one!) at a plodding pace.


DUCK WALK (170) and DRAG (weight unknown)

1st run - completed it

2nd run (heavier drag) - struggled to budge the drag. Didn't get very far. The weight was reduced (twice) during my effort, but didn't make much difference. I had nothing left!


I need more sessions like this, as I always struggle with speed/fitness events in comps.

AXLE POWER SNATCH

50 - 1 rep
61 - 4 or 5 singles (a couple of them would have got red lights in a weightlifting comp!!)


AXLE POWER CLEAN & STRICT PRESS

90 - clean only
90 - clean + 1 press
96 - clean + 1 difficult press (hand spacing too wide)
96 - clean + 2 presses (much better!)
96 - clean + 1 press
96 - clean + 2 presses


SQUATS (raw)

60 - 5 reps
100 - 2 reps
Started getting a pain deep in right glute, but carried on anyway!
140 - 2 reps
180 - 1 rep
190 - 2 reps (solid!)
191 - 2 reps (solid!)


AXLE GOOD MORNINGS (experiment) - to just below parallel (I think!)

empty axle - few reps
50 - few reps
70 - 5 reps (easy weight)
80 - 5 reps (easy weight)

7 reps
8 reps

Cheers, JC. I wasn't totally focused today, because I was worried about my car being parked where clamping was a possibility! It was an OK session though. I'm experimenting with some new exercises (power snatch, good mornings), because I feel my training has gone a bit stale.

He's 23 stone at age 16!! He's been doing a bit of powerlifting and wants to do his first strongman comp this year. He's a beast!
