You must not have watched much footage then. This is 900 powerlifting rules, not strapped, suited, hitched, soft lockout and weighing 400lbz

Doesn't really make any odds as you are allowed to do all of them and weigh whatever you want. At 330lb he would be dwarfed by todays top guys and he wasn't beating everyone in every event then so there's really no possible way he would be anywhere near the best nowadays with how much the sports moved on / he already got a bunch of serious injuries back then.

Agreed. He will need Belsak and Kielszkowski up there.
I think Hall can win but he needs a bad day from Shaw and Thor for that to happen. The gaps are tight between them on events like Stones and Truck pull. Could go either way for any of them.
If he can beat Shaw on frame he has a chance.

What he really needs is to be far better at kettlebell throw than his training video suggested and limit his losses there. That one event will likely push him out of contention for the overall win as he won't gain massive points on deadlift either as Shaw and Thor are some of the next best deadlifters there.

You say Shaw needs to have a bad day but I can't remember the last time Shaw had a bad day at wsm. He would need to have a real howler I reckon and I think he is too professional/the events suit him too much for that to happen.

Day 1 in 2014 wasn't great.

And it's actually really not that the events suit Shaw,Possibly his worst two events are in the final. It's more that Shaw is good at every event.

I've heard this from a bunch of people but after all the footage I've seen of him i can't see him even making the finals. Didn't look anywhere near athletic enough and everyone and there dog seems to be pulling 900lb+ these days.

When I say compete...I mean given modern training, facilities etc and a couple of years to get ready. Basically they had the genetics to compete with the top guys of today.

Hall wasn't going all out in his Kettlebell training vid, I wouldn't make any assumptions based on that. He was strolling between throws.

Loooooool at the ridiculousness of people suggesting Shaw beats Hall at any overhead event other than log. The only event he will is DB ... Shaw is the best in the world at this with his perfectly timed jumping and catching but he never actually presses it.

Yeah it's definitely all technique. A man who's in the top 5 strongest guys of all time definitely uses all technique to press these huge weights and has no strength at all.

We'll see who wins soon. Who cares how it gets overhead? Pressing versus lobbing, it all takes immense strength and technique.

a win is a win for shooooo.

hall has the barbell all day though. hes got the pressing power and the rock solid foundations to make the wobbly bar no more then a slight irritation.
AvatarFAT_SAM
Lol i just said Shaw is the best in the world at DB

You can't jerk a live wobbly bar that is my point...
LaTuta
Brian uses push press technique like almost every other athlete including lalas, radz etc.
Don't know whats the problem?
If you are better at strict pressing it then be it.But theres nothing wrong with a push press.
What i think needs to be banned frm strongman are push jerks and split jerks.
And overhead press has to be pressed not jerked

165 wobble bar for reps overhead shuld not be WSM final event
Avatar93hopkinsonr
I think Ed's left a lot in the tank. If I remember rightly he didn't win his heat last year coming second to mile Burke but was way above him in the final.

I think it's exactly the sort of thing that should be in WSM. Lift an awkward as f**k piece of apparatus above your head anyway you can.

Pretty much what strongman is all about.
