The loglift has only really become popular in the last 15/20 years. The recent increases in the loglift record have been a direct result of it becoming a more popular moment and the fact we now have professional strongmen Macca

Member 4865, 240 posts | With a super-bendy deadlift bar and "special plates" (like the ones used to perform the 1015lbs deadlift record), then it is just a matter of time before records start falling. There are also several deadlift variations i.e. the hammer tire where lifts approach 1200lbs so several people can call themselves deadlift champ depending on the variation. End of an era. Member 4646, 1964 posts | Thinking about it Pritchett may win the deadlift. He pulled over 1000lbs at the Arnold's, as far as I know he hasn't had an injury like Shaw. Ed obviously pulled more but he will have to train other events apart from deadlift. Ed will wear a deadlift suit but with straps down, Pritchett will wear one with straps up(I think) and should get the most out of a suit.

I am from Germany so i know what i talk about. Member 5171, 1049 posts SQ 217.5, BP 160, DL 233.5611.0 kgs @ 83kgs UnEq | Yes the elephant bar was bendy but none of the guys pulled something that was absolutely unexpected. I think they thought with such a bendy bar something in the 480 ballpark would fall but as we have seen this bar didn't get them any benefits

Lost his pen, then found his pen. #phew Member 4899, 2956 posts | As a slight aside the Deadlift is an established event of course but Deadlift with Straps - and not as part of a PL comp - is much less so. A lot of it is reported fact by necessity but guys like Kennedy were said to be pulling 410kg (903) for reps with straps over 30 years ago.

Think this helped Shaw. He grips it so wide it helps negate the whip of the bar. Plus he might just have to strongest lower back going.

I think if anyone hits 464 then that will be the biggest pull

Average hamstring at best Member 4663, 588 posts | I think it'll be beat by more than a kilo this year as there seems to be so many pushing it. I think more than one will hit the 470's

It was almost 10 years(?) since when Bolton broke the 1000 mark, and since then SM has adopted it as one, if not the most, staple lift of SM. All these monstrous men with monstrous lifts in the fold since then and the result is an increase of about a Kg a year on the WR on recognised equipment. Sure it is possible that some one could get everything right on the day and have a breakthrough, but by almost 40K at this level?

I eat a lot of meat Member 5124, 2997 posts SQ 245, BP 130, DL 275650.0 kgs @ 105kgs UnEq | I would guess that there is a similar issue with the log world record deadlift... I understand that every time the record is broken, there are some kind of financial incentives... So if the record isn't under threat, the current holder only needs to beat it by a small amount to claim the new record, but also the prize. Like Z with his small log record jumps, Ed is doing the same with the deadlift. In both lifts, nobody has been close enough yet to make a larger record breaking jump. This year however could be the one. Imagine seeing 3 or 4 guys all beating the current record and pushing each other.
