It was almost 10 years(?) since when Bolton broke the 1000 mark, and since then SM has adopted it as one, if not the most, staple lift of SM. All these monstrous men with monstrous lifts in the fold since then and the result is an increase of about a Kg a year on the WR on recognised equipment. Sure it is possible that some one could get everything right on the day and have a breakthrough, but by almost 40K at this level? Its sugden so unreality prevails. Look at Paul Savage. Do you remember the time when people were comparing a backyard weightlifting comp at OSG to the Commonwealth Games? It reminds me of them vids when a guy nearly kills himself doing a squat or deadlift and just about manages to grind it out and someone in the background shouts "easy".

The impact of the internet and social media has pro's and cons... This being one. I love the fact that pro's can share footage of comps, training and lifts etc, but I do see some absolute whoppers posting videos where it is cringe worthy. It is also why message boards like this cling onto comments... Like when someone said Z squatted the moon, or log pressed a tank etc. The comments usually come out saying "no footage no lift", and even then sometimes when footage is shared there are still doubts over it. All in all it gets us talking, be it excited or doubtful, and this builds the hype and anticipation. Come the deadlift champs, there is going to be a lot of expectation, and some of the athletes have made some big claims about what numbers they will pull. I can't wait!

I can't wait! Both Benni and Eddie are talking about a 500kg pull. Even Terry, who is usually very conservative about this kind of thing is saying he will pull a minimum of 475. Are they dellusional? Purposefully talking themselves up to build hype on social media? Or have they recently discovered a new wonder supplement responsible for a step-change in max strength lol. Time will tell...

what is everyone's fran time? Member 3986, 10452 posts SQ 340, BP 200, DL 400940.0 kgs @ 129kgs Eq | The record has gone up 1kg at a time for the last few years, however Ed last year looked like he could have pulled significantly more. At Europes 2014 when Benni did 461 he clearly wasn't at his best. 2015 Ed didn't have any competition. Excluding the dodgy Arnold's bar we've never had a comp where 2 guys capable of 1000lbs were really in top shape. This year it looks like Ed, Benni, Shaw, Pritchett and Terry are all at their best and with 5 guys capable of a grand we could see abit of an anomaly of a world record increase.

Time will tell... the deadlift record has gone from a valid PL one (andy's 1003lbs) to a straps and hitched effort (ed's 1025) in nearly 10 years (won't get into an argument about PL v SM deads, only criteria here is pulling calibrated plates attached to a DL bar in anyway possible). to suddenly expect the same people involved like benni, eddie, to find a 400% gain over that increase is wildly optimistic... i'd love to be proved wrong though.

I hope Benni gets probably back on form and puts some good training and a god comp together as I think he still has it in him to put both the strongman and PL deadlift records out of touch for a good few years.

I am from Germany so i know what i talk about. Member 5171, 1049 posts SQ 217.5, BP 160, DL 233.5611.0 kgs @ 83kgs UnEq | Benni must be in a very very good shape. He always trains light with great speed.A bit like Andy Bolton. So if Benni does 400kg for reps he has to be really strong. And the build up is still going

I eat a lot of meat Member 5124, 3014 posts SQ 245, BP 130, DL 275650.0 kgs @ 105kgs UnEq | I honestly hope that after this comp, we see some serious attempts made at the powerlifting world record deadlift! I don't think any of the strongmen will give it a crack though if there isn't a substantial amount of cash on offer. After seeing Jerry break the american record with some visual ease, there must be someone that can reclaim the powerlifting deadlift crown.
