Obviously not asking for myself as I have not achieved anything Roll-Eyes

Most of the top strongmen at/from worlds level have Wiki pages and It got me thinking.. Just what level should one reach before a wiki page can be justified?

I'm talking about SM/PL/WL here, there are a lot of people who compete at a national level, take Unit for instance he's competing at England's Strongest man and has a host of other great results (don't blush Paul) but is not known to anyone other than those within the SM community.

Perhaps it's because it's not a 'profession' like most national level athletes which is only due to the sport been as niche as it is but why should that mean a national level athlete doesn't deserve a mention?

What about Powerlifters, I won't get into the controversy of feds and world records etc but the same applies for those who compete for GB etc. Bet most of them don't have wiki pages.

You may be wondering why it would bother me? Well it doesn't - that much. But I don't agree with people having wiki pages just because they have money, don't work and 'socialise' for a living when up and coming athletes who are busting ass to get to their best don't get the recognition.

Hell I may even create a page for someone myself and see whether or not it gets taken down due to them not been famous enough. Grin

Just embrace your crush and make Paul a wiki page. Ask nicely and he'll probably send you a topless selfie for the 'article', tastefully done of course.

I think they have to be interesting- generally, unless you're top of the game in strength sports, no body (out with strength websites) really cares and/or is interested.

longevity in sport as much as numbers. for example, lifters i've seen who post on here with entries - chris jenkins, andy bolton are both putting big numbers up, winning comps and have been doing so for a long time.

I've noticed that it seems like far less power lifters have entries than strongmen. There's pages for people like Jack Macintosh, I know he reached WSM but he probably isn't too well known outside of places like Sugden. Yet no page for Malanichev who holds to all time record in his chosen sport. This isn't meant to be disrespectful to Jack Macintosh at all, I just happen to remember finding myself on his page once and I think it's fair to say he hasn't accomplished as much in his sport as Malan has in his.
It's the same for a lot of the big PL, it's difficult to find info on them. Maybe it's all to do with exposure and TV coverage.

I once made a Wikipedia page for my friend fatpack. It was swiftly removed by the Wikipedia neckbeards. Can you imagine just how much of a neckbeard one would have to be to be a Wikipedia moderator?

in fact, I notice the inconsistency of the brackets "strongman" "strength athlete" for those who clearly are which don't have that tag.

It needs input by the people who know and that is you guys.

I was wondering the exact same thing yesterday! I came to the conclusion that you would probably have one if someone on the street that wasnt directly into lifting had heard of you.

Edit: I am blushing and am prepared to send tastefully done selfies in exchange for a wiki page (not srs)

Wayne I would love to see a wiki page about you and your one man sub standard trading campaign - it would be the source of much bewilderment!

My old boss has/had a page. John Senior. Don't really know why. That is all.

Edit: just checked it's still there, and while i'm not sure that he's famous i guess there's enough that warrants it. Although fluffing it out with what he did at college whiffs a bit of self involvement.
