Would I personally want to weigh 30 stone if it meant I could squat 400kg? No way!

But... absolute strength is the winner here. Bodyweight/age etc can make a lift impressive though.

It's funny looking at smaller guys trying to be large! Little hands little feet!
Aaron and Ben are on point! Others are just trying to be pretty boys! Candy butts
Jimmy, who is Simon? Are you answering that guy in your bogging again?
Too much cookie game bro!!!

Clearly strongest is strongest regardless of bw weight.

However we all know what is 'impressive' and a better sporting performance has more context to it.

thing is blowing your bodyweight up will improve strength but not always proportionately. most of my best lifts have been at a lighter bodyweight. as such theres a tipping point when getting bigger (fatter) doesnt get you stronger, as such you move up a class but will still not be competitive so improving strength whilst staying a similar weight is best for competition until you're at a certain strength level.

A small person lifting big weight = impressive

A big person lifting big weight = impressive

A big person lifting less than a little person = not so impressive

I reckon it's all relative depending on the person.

Also, height plays a large factor into bodyweight of some people.
Sure a 200kg squat at 60kg bodyweight is impressive but is it less impressive if the guy is 5 ft as opposed to 5ft10? Even more so with deadlifts though. Seen a few tiny short guys pulling giant 18" deadlifts with a tiny ROM which is awesome but nothing compared to a regular height person doing the same lift.

Overall, i think WSM u90kg is more impressive than placing 5th in a random local Opens competition even if the weights lifted are the same or less for the lighter athlete...

In my gym, I'm "moderately" impressive because I deadlift over 200kg.
But, under 90's do that for reps.
However, it's unfair to judge me and my awesome physique because I've only really been strength training for the goal of strength over the last year.

At what point does a tall man lifting heavy weights become impressive?
Is tall a disadvantage (whilst starting out) when compounding, due to long limbs?

It's inevitable I will be 140kg when I'm pretty damned strong but I suspect I won't be fat.

Relative lifters who lift close to the big boys are my favourites.

Piseranko chucking around the same weights as guys 40 kg heavier than himself is impressive.

Malanachiev lifting all time records 30 kg lighter than other lifters is impressive.

Hugely fat people lifting less than me isn't so impressive.

I don't think height has anything to do with it for me I can appreciate different lifts from different lifters.
The thing with height is that it is horses for courses; a tall man will generally have long limbs which can make him good at deadlifting and certain events in strongman but less good at things like squatting or pressing. A tall man who is very heavy can overcome the relative disadvantages in squatting and pressing.
