I believe we could discuss my theory behind what I do at great length, and that we would never see eye to eye, but that you would be quite interested anyway. Perhaps not on Sugden, but I would enjoy such a discussion next time I see you!

Capital idea. I would be very interested. We will do this.

I will say this now...

I am a curious man.

This training style intrigued me, and I decided to find out for myself whether it was a load of s**t or not. At the time of making this decision, I couldn't have cared less whether it worked or didn't, I just wanted to embrace the lifestyle and see for myself.

While I prepared for this training, and made the necessary adjustments, I spent 6 months going slowly backwards. This is the part most will have a problem with, you would have to be mental to go through this and see it out to the end.

However, 2-3 months ago I reached a turning point and things began to just make sense. The numbers started coming up, and they carried on coming up. Now, I just don't know how to stop doing it. I will squat tomorrow, not because I want to, but because I don't know how to not squat tomorrow. Nothing anyone says will change this. I will also set a PB of some sort tomorrow. 185kg x 5 all paused reps would do nicely.

I still have weeks from time to time, when strength drops drastically, however it always bounces back to new highs if I just stick at it and do the best I can. I almost look forward to another week like that, because I know good things will follow.

This is just my life now...

Did you catch my singles question on the last page?

What do you think of doing jumps as a training aid, I know you must have done a lot in your sprinting days and did a few to some stupid 59" height or something at OSG at some point. But do you think they actually help?

Do you have no real interest in competing in weightlifting?

Hi Tom, quick question, hope you don't mind answering. I'm sure you probably get sick of people asking you the same stuff over and over.

How much are you planning what your squat weights and reps are at the moment? Are you purposely planning heavy and light days, or days that you are doing your pauses, front squats, etc., or are you basing it off feel mostly?

I've got an impending surgery coming up (3rd one in less than 3 years- FML!) and I will use it as an opportunity to squat as much as humanly possible during my recovery. I did an experiment about 3 years ago where I did the daily max squatting thing. I actually squatted (high bar) as a warm up for any training that I did, including my low bar squatting sessions (2 x per week) leading up to a PL comp. Basically any day that I went to the gym, no matter how s**t I felt, I would squat about 165kg for something (singles, doubles, etc; beltless, sleeveless, etc), without fail, regardless of what I was doing. I never really felt like I was progressing much (it always felt pretty much the same) until one day where I ended up squatting 195kg out of nowhere.

When I did this I had no plan for the high bar stuff but I programmed my "normal" squats and deads. I just always made sure that I had squatted 165(which was maybe a tad more than double my BW). Thinking about doing something similar but interested to know your experiences at the minute because what you are doing is clearly working!

Excellent squattage - the 170 fs looked great and the first rep with 185 paused looked super strong

Loving the knee travel on the fs - I wonder if your repeated efforts will allow the knees to travel there naturally without a pause after a while ?

That's the goal! First, spend some time down there getting comfy, then learn how to get there quickly....which I think I managed in the clean which was nice. It is the obvious position to catch a clean effectively I think...

Well 9 weeks out from comp, I'd rather not be making it look hard lol.

Thankyou!

Was that luke in the 185x5 vid? Seemed to be struggling to tell depth from behind so he thought he would check you where going low enough from the side lol.

Great squatting, form is awesome!
