Thanks all. No it's not an olympic bar it's just a regular one you get down the local sports shop. If I was starting again I'd have olympic equipment but I've spent so much getting that lot together that it'll have to wait until I get 'permission' *ahem* Happy

As for it looking easy for a PB it's because I've never really tried PBs before on stuff, just done reps. Truth be told I'd like to know how to attempt PBs properly. Is there a structure in how you lift to warm up for an attempt, or was what I did about right? There must be a point where you can do too much trying to warm up and knacker yourself out for your PB attempt?

As for the dead stop at the bottom, do you mean like wait a second or two and then lift so I'm not getting any benefit from a bounce or a reflex thingummy in my muscles?

Your build up to your pb was ok but personally if say i had a max deadlift of say 200 i would go something likethis:- warm up with one or two sets up to 150 than 180x2,190x1,200x1.

By deadstop it means letting the bar come to a complete stop on the ground before your next rep. I reckon within 2 months or so 190-200 is on the cards for you. if you get on some olympic plates and a bit more practice. You have very good form too.

You're also essentially doing a small platform deadlift because an oly bar would be higher up your shins at the start - can't be far off 200 on a proper setup.

Great lift! 1st pulling milestone under your belt! I reckon you should get 190-200 if you used a proper olly bar and plates. Several years ago I was training using standard guage bar and pulled 205. Next session I used an oly bar (1st time in a year)and pulled 220.

Nice vids mate, I started with standard and the difference is amazing, standard will do for a while yet but when 'permission' has landed a nice set would sort you out for life.

as rob said, your probably 2/3 inchs shy of the normal height, which is great trainingas when you hit an oly bar, you'll throw the weight up in the air !!!

Cheers for all the encouragement!

Probably a stupid question, but if I bought an olympic bar would my weights fit on it or is the hole size different? Cos I reckon if I didn't have to replace all the weights too I could probably start working on getting the permission sooner Wink

I'm afraid its the full monty neil mate !!

there is no real urgency - i trained for a couple of years with standard (1" diameter hole) (olympic plates 2" hole)

i still have about 280kg in my shed...

Good work on the 400lb mate! - there's certainly plenty more to come before long. Your technique looks very good too.

Thursday 24th May

Bench: 51kg x 6, 81kg x 5, 81kg x 5, 81kg x 5, 85kg x 3 - 3mins rest between.
Dips: BW + 8kg x 8 x 3 - 2mins rest between
DB press: 20kg x 8 x 3 - 2mins rest between
Push downs: 25kg x 8 x 3 - 2mins rest between.

AND because I am doing a 10km race on Sunday morning so can't realistically do my legs on the Saturday I thought I would test out my new form today for some light warm-up reps.

Squat: 91kg x 5 x 3 - 2mins rest between.

I hope my technique is a little better than before. Please don't hesitate to rip it apart because right now I'm doing light so I can focus on my technique before I attempt to try to up the weight.

I'll say one thing, it sure felt different with a wider stance and pushing my arse out into a kind of sitting position. I think I'm going to ache tomorrow!

Very good improvement. Just keep doing it and they will get deeper and better.

Can definately see an improvement already. Rob's right - the depth will come with practice.

You'll be right about aching tommorow though LOL

Yep, I was a little achey but not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Been doing plenty of stretching to try and get my legs used to doing it. We'll see how I go on Saturday with some weight on again.

Sunday 27th May

To say I'm a bit disappointed is a bit of an understatement. I ran the 10km this morning and came in at 56mins 2seconds. I've done better than that over a tougher course in practice! On race day you expect to push it just that little bit further, but I couldn't because I have got a little nagging 'cold' that I just haven't been able to shake for a few days. So respiratory failure aside it was a great race! Roll-Eyes

Got another 10km race on July 1st. I will be going for 10hours sleep per night in the lead up to that along with plenty of vit C. I do not want a repeat performance.

Sounds like a good time to me - my rev n rip scooter would take close to an hour !!

squats looking tons better, with more practice they will be a bit smoother, i made a box and as long as my botty brushes it i know ive made depth (some fully sit on the box, but thats a different exercise)
