ha ha i love the axe head story , i took my son metal detecting in a field near to us and we were convinced we'd found an english civil war musket ball only to find when we got it home and cleaned it up that it was a rusty ball bearing.

I also found a couple of flints I thought had been "worked" but when examined by my wife (archaeologist before full time parent) my elation was soon dashed. Its good to dream.

Well that was rubbish, legs ok, HR far from Ok, Lungs felt like a crinkly old crisp packet.
LUCK, today I was finishing a small landscaping job and had underestimated how much turf to get I was 1 roll short, annoyingly none to be had in Pork Pie town I had to go back to the original supplier 15miles away Halfway there there is a large roundabout where I spotted 8 or so rolls on the roundabout where some barry dumbkoff had failed to secure his load. His bad luck was my good luck. They were a bit mashed up but saved me about half an hour and 3.Grin

Pre row I had decided on a MHR of 150, even still I would normally expect a much better return. HR first thing was up 10bpm or so I think it must be a combination of 2k fear and my toe fixing system working overtime. If things don't pick up tomorrow /Tuesday I will defer the 2k I would rather be crushed by a non attempt than a HD attempt. Bench going well though.

Don't panic jt, you had a blinding session only last Sunday, you've not suddenly lost your C2 fitness Happy. My easy weeks are often pretty crappy on times / HR and don't start to pick up until the middle week. You've done almost all the hard work now, stick with it!

I get your point But i have just had an easy week, My UT1 has been gradually going backwards and the last few sessions more severely which makes me think I m not quite right.(in the head to be doing this)

Short term plan maybe have a dash at something short or restricted rate (default pb)

Longer term I think I need a break from structure for a few weeks, which I guess will be lots 100's and really need to start some strength stuff again. Almost tempted to do a PL comp even though I haven't squatted for close on 2 years.

so the taper is meant to fill you wth confidence, for me it has highlighted just how bloody hard it is! Possibly because I am a negative split type of guy starting off at overall intended pace and maintaining it for 4 and then 3 minutes was not the best plan coupled with a higher than expected HR it has made me think my Pb from 2 months back of 6.39 is pretty decent. I will carry on with the taper then warm up on Sunday and attempt what feels right. Smart money should be on the shorter distances.

MY Bodyweight has gone up to 92kg, a bit of extra pork always helps my bench.

Good plan jt, you can just try to nail a decent 2k when you are feeling decent again if it's not on Sunday. I'm starting to feel nervous for you Happy

The outcome of your training doesn't necessarily have to be a 2k PB on a specific week, other distances or dates can do just fine.

Turdest of all turd nights, I go to bed early and get woken by the "night owl" wife going bed in the AM time to build a bedroom in the shed? last night I thought I might do a 1k today but finally settled on a 500m I tried fly and die for a change with a view to HD if necessary but hung on to knock a mighty 10th off of my pb. Considering my Recent high HR (and todays) I am pretty happy with 1.25.2.
