Dan is old fashioned. Member 27, 2028 posts SQ 240, BP 170, DL 255665.0 kgs @ 102kgs UnEq | Max strict press 115kg. Max push press 120kg - on the grounds that I can't clean any more than that and can't seem to push press when I pick up from a rack. Need to start training cleans, then push press, very soon.

Member 194, 3976 posts | WILLSAN said: not sure what you mean? the reason I suggest it is that, although you can press out a power jerk, it doesnt really work that well so it teaches you to rely on your leg drive to get it up. I couldnt push press for s**t until I put in about 6 months on jerks. after that my pushies shot up. What I mean is, in working the squat to a decent level as the oly boys do, they ensure when it comes to a jerk there is no doubt that the legs can provide enough explosive force to move the bar. If for e.g your trying to push press 140kgs - strict presses and bw all being the same, but one guy squats 180 x 5 and the other squats 250 x 5 paused for 2 seconds in the hole and driven up stupidly fast - well who will have the most force generation through thier feet and hips? Don't get me wrong I see your point and I agree with it, jerks will help you use the ole leg drive - but developing the leg drive in the first place is oft what people neglect to think of - Squats, so beautiful - truly the king of lifts (when done raw, ass to grass and not homo high lol

I always thought the squatting was to help the cleans for oly lads rather than the jerks?

Recently i managed to improve my jerks and front squats at the same time, while my back squat hasnt moved much. I feel like training the paused back squat though, there's a fella called Taranenko who said they're good. Maybe i should give'em a bash!
