Not that I've ever had any great sway towards any of the main (or even minor) faiths myself, but I've always wondered what drives people to live a personal life integrated with religeon. I watch documentaries that cover various faiths and must admit to being a little envious that people can feel something so much. Any SBB posters consider themselves amongst the faithfull, whichever orientation, and consider it to have a positive impact on your life and those around you? Does it affect the way you make decisions in an everyday kind of way? Does it affect your training or competing at all?

Have to say that I dont feel any kind of pull towards the any of the holy books or their teachings, but why other people do is of interest.

think Boar is right. but IMO Faith isn't just about religion but more about the person and what they believe.

The whole premise of faith (in this context) seriously disturbs me

It doesnt seem to ask an awful lot of you other than be nice to people - No smiting, or abstinence or jihads.

I am an atheist.

I find it difficult to understand how seemingly rational people can believe in such things. Boggles my mind to be honest.

I cannot conceive of a God who rewards and punishes his creatures, or has a will of the type of which we are conscious in ourselves. An individual who should survive his physical death is also beyond my comprehension, such notions are for the fears or absurd egoism of feeble souls. - Albert Einstein.

Now i'm no Einstein but he has a point.

I've had to start attending church every sunday... as we want to have our daughter (nearly 4 y/o) christened.... now, morally i disagree with this... as I believe a child should be "faithless" until an age where they can investigate and decide. ive been christened (as a baby), but am now atheist... i honestly see religious people as deluded. my mrs is christian but not really practising.

but, for my daughter to go the the local school she must be christened... she could go to the other school in the area but (and sorry in advance), it is only really for polish, indian and pakistani kids.... there are very few kids there who's language at home is english.... i want my daughter to attend a school where the kids are mainly from english families (english christians, english muslims.... whatever, but still mainly english)

so i have had to put my morality on hold to allow the christining to go ahead... but, why should my daughter go to a s**t school because of me?

i dunno, doesnt feel right, feels like im taking the piss out of the church... but hey ho life is life

Personally I am very anti religious and anti faith I have my own reasons for this and don't expect anyone to understand why

I have a lot of friends who are very religious and from different relgious backgrounds even know a few friends who actively worship the devil and I find most of them find it comforting to feel they are sort of something bigger than what they add

Faith is the great cop-out, the great excuse to evade the need to think and evaluate evidence. Faith is belief in spite of, even perhaps because of, the lack of evidence.
