Apparently his brother Andrew was really strong too.

If he had an identical twin brother we'd have a double Pfister.

Sorry yes this was 2004.

Just finished watching it and Mariusz looked off his head at the end. He soon recovered from the disappointment of not winning and was on the podium doing a crazy dance.

Wasn't that the year he got his third place stripped off him for cocain use?

Having seen Magnus deadlifting less than 300kg and having most of his wins based on Strongman fitness, I have no reason to doubt his claim to natural.
Im 6ft6 and 130kg with pretty low body fat and I'm solid fit.
I know for sure that every kilo up to 140kg would get me a 300kg deadlift and I can still shift fast, aswell as far. I can recover well after heavy stress.

Watching the Zambia METR-X shows and before, the gear would be helpful but it isn't far out of reach for a bunch of the events. Strongmen in the range of 6ft3+ and hovering 120(even less!) to 140kg were something achievable.

I think the believability factor is destroyed today because there aren't many big strong guys pushing their natural limits. You have no yard stick. PEDs are rife and I'm not against them but some people talk like unless you are on it then you can't have possibly won something.

I for one can accept both Samuelsson and Pfister's claim.

Today's events and schedule are something else though. I assume even regional shows are pushing human natural limits.

samuelsson was benching 270kg for 2 reps and claiming 25" arms at a reasonable level of leanness in his video.
find it hard to believe that is achievable naturally, in particular the massive amount of muscle at relative leanness

(unless 'natural' means any anabolic hormones we make naturally... as in 3g 'natural' sustanon, daily 20 iu 'natural' somatropin and 100 iu of 'natural' humalog)

When they said he'd lost his 3rd place due to failing a drugs test, this suggested to the public that the guys are natural. This is how my dad interpreted it and wouldn't accept that the guys use drugs.

Why do they allow competitors to consume enough vitamin-s to kill an elephant if they choose, but not have a spliff?

Because drugs are bad.

They dont allow the use of vitamin t, and if it was proven someone was using theyd probably be stripped of their result. They simply choose not to test beyond a basic drug test.
If they fail they are out, if they pass then the organisers can say they tested the athletes and found them drug free. It gives plausible deniability if someones heart explodes during a filmed comp.

** the above is all complete bulls**t that just came to mind as i was typing. It makes a certain kind of sense though, so im sticking with it.

I don't know a great deal about drugs but I always assumed they were tighter on cocaine because they didn't want anyone dropping dead there and then because their already enlarged heart couldn't cope with doing the extra how ever many beats per minute that cocaine would cause.
Just a guess.

That may well be the case. However I believe that was the last wsm before the ifsa split so I always wondered if mariusz being stripped of his podium was political and due to a fall out with Dougie Edmunds rather than for the reasons above. Could easily have been a bit of both though.
