Seeing only the vids from the back on youtube I would have said yes, but seeing the proper coverage I think Zs was fully locked out if only for a moment, and Jenkins wasn't

I think Jenkins problem is the clean, it seems hard and takes a lot out of him, whereas Zs clean is pretty close to effortless

Perhaps thats why Jenkins beat Z at the Arnold

yeah, said this to my girfriend as the replay of Z's log showed his left arm was fractional in locking out and at normal speed seemed similar to jenkins

Would far prefer some more 'outrageous' events and a larger crowd. The last two in the USA weren't as good as others have been IMO.

The most recent one in Sun City was the most impressive, with the power stairs in that massive old amphitheatre or what ever it was.

I agree about the ampitheatre power stairs and the setting being a bit bland. Great competition, but I can't help thinking I enjoyed it more 10-15 years ago (apart from the fact I know (of) some of the competitors now) What was different back then? Maybe it was more of a TV show and less relevant to finding the strongest?

90s strongman was NEVER about finding the strongest man, thats for sure

I enjoyed this WSM more than I have any in the last ten years

It was more of a tv show in 90s, as was said in earlier posts. Strongman is a fast growing sport with a lot more atheletes participating now from the grass roots. Probably why the talent pool is a lot larger. Something similar to darts in that respect.

In the 90's there was a lot more tv/public interest but the organisation and events went great.

I enjoyed the 80's the most, raw strength and no technique all the way.

All this "you only have to be locked out momentarily and you don't have to be stable" is new. Have they changed the rules? It's like rock press rules being applied to log.

as far as I'm concerned that is quite right
Did you see what happened on one of Shaws log attempts? This s**t is SERIOUSLY dangerous!

its no more dangerous than weightlifting and with lighter weights. I think they have relaxed the rules to allow the world record to keep being broken. I think z's attempt was closer than jenkins but I wouldnt have given either myself.

I'm inclined to think a log is more dangerous than an equally weighted bar, its unwieldy, your hands can get caught inside it, its far thicker therefore its harder to get out of the way of if it comes down when you don't expect it

I quite like seeing the log being held at the top, feet in line.

I would also say its more dangerous, with an oly bar at least you have some space under it if you get pinned. Also with a jerk you are not as likely to fall backwards, with a log there is a tendency to really arch your back as you press it, well at least that is what it feels like to me.

So do I. Afterall, thats always been the rules at all the comps I've done. There's no question in my mind that Z's log was a no lift.

I would put them on a par personally. but even if there is a difference I cant see how allowing soft lockouts would make it significantly safer? if its a dodgy press you are going to get squashed whether the ref is asking you to hold it or not.
