WILLSAN said:I would put them on a par personally. but even if there is a difference I cant see how allowing soft lockouts would make it significantly safer? if its a dodgy press you are going to get squashed whether the ref is asking you to hold it or not.

Yeah, you are probably right

I actually wouldn't have given Zs log, I just hate it when I see comps where you have to give the ref the eye before you get the down signal.

IMO the moment its locked, feet in line, and controlled, its a good lift, its shouldn't have to be held there for an age

I said:I think they have relaxed the rules to allow the world record to keep being broken.

reading this back it sounds like im saying its intentional which I dont think it is necassarily. I can see its a difficult one for colin bryce as he is organiser, ref AND commentator. in many ways he IS strongman and its in his interest for world records to fall. I can see how it would be tempting to call it early.

as a side point I think bryce is great at what he does but I dont think its ideal for any sport to have only one person in the centre of it all. what happens when he retires?

In all honesty I don't see him retiring anytime soon, and when he does I'm sure the sport will have grown enough to support itself. Doesn't Collin already have Sven Karlsen and a few others on his 'council' as such already?

So do I. Afterall, thats always been the rules at all the comps I've done. There's no question in my mind that Z's log was a no lift.

Z clearly never met the one and only ref, Jc

What are the actual WSM rules re log?

If the requirement is only to lock arms then Z got it for sure.

His legs and balance were all over the place, but does one have to stand motionless with feet in line?

Does Strongman have any written rules? Is there an international governing body? Is it indeed a real sport or just entertainment?

Will it ever be legitimised as a "real" sport? And if so what would it need to do to be so? Standardised equipment? Defined rules? Doping control? Governing bodies?

LeedsMiniPower said:Anybody else feel they should have given jenkins the 220 log, imo it was on par with big z although neither were rock solid.

I felt neither should have been given. I was so willing Jenkin's 2nd effort to be locked out though!

Id call it locked out.

not for long, but the first lockout is there, and his feet are in line.
