Sorry to hear you were not well. This shouldn't be taken as a substitute for medical advice but here are some links which could help if you have type 2 diabetes :-

- http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diet/ketogenic-diet.html

If the doctor agrees, I would presume if you aimed for the 105s and reduced carbs you might be able to control/reduce the diabetes. Not sure what dietary changes he has advised though.

I'm intending to drop down to the 105's as the year progresses Frank, probably about the same time as you move up to the 120's.

Monday 6th January.

Feeling a lot better today, I woke up this morning to find the room stationary which is always a good sign. Very busy at the Farm this evening, 15 lifters, there must be a competition coming up! We were also visited by Poorly Pete who seems to be on the mend. Weighed in at 111.85Kg.

Squats.
10 x 20
5 x 70
5 x 110
3 x 135
2 x 155
2 x 165
2 x 175
2 x 170
5 x 145
This was the session that should have happened on Friday, it was more comfortable than I expected.

Bench.
20 x 20
8 x 60
5 x 85
4 x 102.5
3 x 107.5
2 x 112.5
1 x 117.5
2 x 112.5
3 x 107.5 Actually only 2.9x, the weaker right shoulder just would not lock out the third press and locked about 1" short!
3 x 102.5 Should have been 4x but arms tired by this point.
2 x 8 x 80 Close Grip.
Bench progress is dissapointingly slow.Unhappy

Wednesday 8th January.

Very busy at the Farm tonight, I lost count of the lifters but it was probably 16 or 17. The Saints accademy lads are back and we are picking up new members at the rate of 2-3 / month, it might not sound like much but for years we were losing numbers. Weighed in at 111.35Kg, my new "cleaner" diet (no alcohol, chocolate, chips, Chinese, Indians, Crisps, in fact nothing I enjoy) does not seem to be affecting my weight at present.

Deadlifts.
2 x 5 x 70
5 x 110
5 x 140
3 x 160
2 x 180
2 x 195
2 x 210
2 x 202.5
2 x 195
5 x 170
These could not be classed as easy but they did come up and I think that there is more to come. Back is feeling tender now. Used our brand new Eleiko power bar - Lovely but palms are now shredded.

Bench.
20 x 20
10 x 60
5 x 80
5 x 90
3 x 5 x 100
5 x 90
2 x 9 x 80 Close Grip.
All the 5th presses on the 100's were real grinders but for the first time in ages they actually locked out both sides. Satisfied with tonights benching.

Heard from Allan tonight that the entries for the EM Clasic on Feb 2nd have closed two weeks early with 47 (limit was set at 45) lifters being accepted and he now also has 16 on the waiting list! Powerlifting is getting popular again. Only three years ago we managed just 12 lifters at a regional event.

I wonder if the rise in popularity has anything to do with the new unequipped international comps.

I would say most definately Ed.
The GBPF has already registered 399 members this year, 71 of them in the East Midlands with 63 of them trying to lift in Letchworth next month!

Great news that were getting more lifters Ian, the farm has an incredible range of lifters now, all of which benefiting immensely from lifting at the farm.

I have stuck a couple of promotional posts on Facebook to get peoples attention, one of which you may have heard got hijacked. But if out of these 2-3 a month joining one becomes a long term member each time, the Farm will be running for years to come Happy

thats fantastic , i wonder how long it will be before unequipped becomes the standard.

good to see your feeling better I predict your new diet will definitely mean a drop in weight it sounds similar to the diet i'm on and the weight fell off me.

Do we have guests in the divisional as I was surprised to be told by Allen that the Comp is full? The last couple of comps have only had half a dozen or so lifters. Where have all these people come from? The comp was advertised on facebook and so on so its all good though that the division is now "vibrant", we need more comps in the division.

Frank, at the equipped competition back in December there were 42 lifters, 30 of which lifted in-equipped, so we had a good idea that the un-equipped would be oversubscribed. It was decided at the last committee meeting to limit the lifters to 45 and to reject guests unless the entries were down. To the best of my knowledge the 47 accepted lifters are all EM.

Where are they from? Lots seem to be coming out of Cambridge uni at present also Luton & Colchester seem to be growing, plus there will be around 8 or 9 from the Farm!

Busy again at the Farm.
Weighed in at 111.35kg.

Squats.
10 x 20
5 x 70
5 x 110
3 x 140
3 x 150
3 x 160
3 x 167.5
3 x 155
5 x 145
Satisfied with these.

Bench
20 x 20
10 x 60
5 x 80
5 x 100
3 x 3 x 107.5
4 x 100 Should have been 5x but the 5th press just failed to lock out.
10 x 80 Close grip.
9 x 80 Close grip, just missed the 10th.
Bench progress is still slow.

Late opening starts again on the 29th. You'd probably be kicked out at about 7:15 this week.

Thanks for letting me know Ian. I'll try and get a session in at my sons Gym. Should be some juiced monster with pencil legs to spot me!

Monday 13th January.

Very busy again at the Farm, 16 lifters including Poorly Pete back in his squat suit and another new chap (yes Horny, he can bench his bodyweight). Weighed in at 112.2Kg, i've been dieting and eating "clean" for 10 days now and as a consequence i've put on 0.65Kg. Eek Eek

Deadlift.
2 x 5 x 70
5 x 110
5 x 140
3 x 165
3 x 185
3 x 200
3 x 190
3 x 180
5 x 170
No problems, could perhaps have pulled 5x200 but with less than 3 weeks to go until the EM there is no point in risking injury.

Bench.
20 x 20
10 x 60
5 x 80
4 x 100
2 x 110
1 x 115
1 x 120
3 x 107.5
5 x 100
2 x 10 x 80 Close Grip.
It's slow progress but at least it is progress.

Now my current target is the British Masters on March 15th, 8 weeks on Saturday, so the EM Classic on Feb 2nd will simply be a good training session where i'll be looking for a 190/115/225-530 total, then by the time the British comes round i'm wanting to put 10kg on each lift for 200/125/235-560.
